Pet (2016)
3/5

The hobbit does well enough, but ultimately, this actually needed to be carried by the female lead, and the actress isn't strong enough to make the plot twist work.

What We Do In The Shadows (2014)
5/5

So this is a handheld, mockumentary (Damn, between this, and ReKill, I'm actually starting to like this genre). The premise is that a small film team is granted access to a group of vampires that live in a home in New Zealand together. The vampires promise to show them everything about their lifestyle and to not attack or try to eat them. While the film mostly relies on it's comedy....there are actually some really frightening scenes as well. It's another horror/comedy, but it's done very well. The camera work is also very impressive, it's handheld, but they mostly avoid shaky cam, and everything feels more cinematic than these types of films usually do. And they get some pretty clever effects to work. The vampires have standard powers but they use them in ways hat are often times more scary or funny than you would expect.

My favorite part is at the end when (spoilers) :
the werewolves get lose and they end up being horrifying and clearly more powerful than the vampires.

BTW, both of these are on Amazon Prime, which is low-key shytting on Netflix right now....:yeshrug:

Anybody here tried shudder?

It's a streaming app for horror.
I have it. Been subscribed since October and it's just ok. I honestly don't know why I haven't discontinued it but it's definitely worth checking out every once in awhile to see what they've added. Lot of C and D list shyt that I would never waste my time with

I'm at the point where if you can't paint the human condition at its most rawest, genuine, realized and/or vulnerable state - there's no point in even making a film that centers around it. Which is a shame because past that and the fact that it also loses tension before it reaches a boiling point on multiple occasions, there's a lot to like about it: acting, atmosphere, premise and originality. This definitely had the potential to be a more darker, sinister Don't Look Now. Unfortunately it didn't come close.
