This 1974 is lowkey possibly the most disturbing out of the entire franchise. Look at this
WTH
Description:
“Most disturbing film ever made. Look how perfect he played "leatherface", that
confused, horrifying, downsyndrome
shrieking and deranged frustration in the killer, and the pure terror in the victims,by far the most filthy, gritty
psychologically terrifying cult horror film. The way they filmed every scene, the angles and camera work is beyond words. The sounds. Everything. Not a drop of blood or gore needed on screen in the film, but still the effects are so grisly and real, because the audiencehere is almost tricked to be able to imagine and really feel the same pain.
One can almost feel and smell all the stench of rot and slaughterhouse, the
victims' terror and the total madness in the movie. Because it's something that could happen or even exist out there in our real world right now it makes it so
primal. Leatherface isn't an"evil
monster", he is a mentally disabled madman that's very real and you cannot argue or bargain with him.”
Original TCM is in my top three all time with The Shining and Exorcist 3. You're definitely right about how visceral and absorbing it gets to be, there's a lot of weight to everything going on.
