Who cares if it provokes an emotional response? People are gonna be emotional about life and death regardless. People are only drawing attention to these semantics because they think it will help their side of the debate but it won't. It's boring.

So facts and truth aren't supposed to matter when delivering the news?

shyt like this is why the mainstream media has lost the trust of most of the public. They are supposed to report truth and facts. Not just the facts that serve their own agendas and they definitely should not be misleading people intentionally.

All this "assault rifle" bullshyt has Americans who are not familiar with firearms thinking they will be able to walk out of their local gun store with an automatic "assault rifle".

It's not facts or truth, it just semantics. You guys are saying that a Nickname is incorrect. It's like making a big deal every time someone says Diddy instead of Sean Combs. Calling an M&P sport a sporting rifle is a bullshyt term too. M&P literally stands for military and police and the ar-15 is a civilian version of a rifle that was designed for battle. nobody calls that lies though.

It's not semantics. Semi auto firearms ARE NOT ASSAULT WEAPONS! That's a fukking fact. The media loses credibility by trying to speak authoritatively on a subject but they don't even have the fukking basics correct! Why the fukk should people like these get to determine when, where, why or who can exercise their second amendment rights?

And no calling AR's modern sporting rifles is NOT the same. I agree that "modern sporting rifle" is a marketing term, but that term is not misleading about how the firearm functions. It's still a semi automatic firearm like all civilian legal rifles. People do use AR's and other firearms for sport shooting (3 gun etc). Calling it a modern sporting is not a lie and is not the same as the media intentionally trying to decieve the public by using provocative terms to incorrectly describe firearms.

The AP admitted it is wrong to use "assault rifle" to describe semi auto weapons, the constitutional scholar in the video I posted said the same thing.

Why fight so hard to be incorrect?

why should people avoid the terms assault? just a name. No one makes psa's about calling ak's choppers or heaters. If someone says i gotta strap, no one is like thats not the correct term it's a pistol. This is Political nonsense, correcting people's gun lingo is not changing anything about the gun control debate. Call it whatever you want those people are still gonna call for gun control.

Being factually correct is important, you can't just lump shyt together or make up buzzwords and expect any rational legislation or change. I mean, you used to not be able to. Nobody still doesn't know what the fukk CRT is and who's teaching it and how long it's been taught.

It's like when people call gun magazines "clips".
You wouldn't call a shotgun a rifle. You wouldn't call an F250 a " car" it seems nitpicky but names and details matter.

If you're in IT and someone calls and says "My computer is broken!" And you say "What's wrong?" And they say "The screen is flickering and it's blue and green." And you say "ok, well it sounds like your computer is fine, but the monitor needs to be replaced."

There's a difference between a mallet, a hammer and a sledgehammer. A difference between nails and screws. A difference between a socket wrench and a pipe wrench.

There's a difference between house paint and spray paint. A lot of places only sell spray paint to those over 18, but not house paint. There's a difference between elmers glue and instant/super glue, some places make you have to be 18 to buy instant glue, but anyone can buy elmers.

I understand it seems nitpicky but shyt matters. If you talk to knitters and say "oh you crochet" they'll correct you. If you call a crochet hook a needle, they'll correct you.

If your in the know of whatever it is, you understand how people outside of the know can't just come in and make up shyt, use terms incorrectly especially if they are trying to make changes. And it's with everything, golf has wedges, irons, drivers, putters. You can't just say "let's make changes to the clubs" names and shyt matter.

So basically all this amounts to a person on facebook correcting somebody when they say "There", instead of "Their". Except somehow people think this unpopular tactic is somehow going to win the gun debate. I just think we should focus on what matters instead of acting like being a grammer nazi's is going to win hearts and minds.

It's not about grammar.

Is a Japanese person the same as a Chinese person?

It's like when people attack sikhs thinking they are muslims.

People get killed mislabeling and lumping shyt together based on "characteristics".

It's not about grammar at all.
