The Chi (South Side)
I'm thinking about this situation with the curfew and the bridges being up once again. it's like lightfoot is saying that only downtown and the affluent areas matter.

and speaking of that, my homie lives on state and grand. there's a jewel there as well. dude told me they looted jewels on monday, and 3 hours later it was open for business. which shows the disparity that exist here on the south side.

it's been 3 months damn near since shyt was looted out here, and I'm still seeing a shytload of big businesses that are still not open. I'm referring to the nike outlet, walmart, walgreens on 75th/state, walgreens on 79th/racine. but downtown, the apple store gets hit, and they have their doors and glass fixed at like 7am the same day. I saw this on the news.

so what it looks and sounds like to me is folks downtown and up north need to be protected from mayhem, but because there are poor people on the south/west sides, they should just fend for themselves. its bullshyt.

It reads to me like it has everything to do with big businesses and the decisions that they make and not the city officials. I do know that Lightfoot was begging Walmart and a few other big businesses not to leave the city after the initial looting so I'm not sure how the blame is placed on government?

Also, you are comparing a Jewels that was looted for 1-2 hours with something like the Walmart on 47th and Cottage that was looted for 1-2 days. On a related note, as far as I know, all Chicago Walmart's were scheduled to reopen by early August. I know the 47th & Cottage Grove Walmart reopened 8/1.

lanlord was short sighted. dude had another restaurant 2 blocks away, and he wasn't gonna allow himself to be squeezed in a pandemic due to greed :salute:.

totally understand why he bounced.
And assumed he was going to shut up and and the new terms and continue on. They really underestimate us when it comes to us exercising our options.

Plus considering how much business Harold's generated at that location, I don't see any other proprietor that can come close, let alone be profitable under those conditions.

That property owner is going to be sitting on an empty lot for a long ass time.

I mean, what do you really expect when downtown is the money maker?

Money talks and you place your priorities in line.

If stores closed, and tourist stopped coming, and downtown residents start leaving, if you think things are bad on the south/west side now, what do you think will happen when there is no money in the city at all?

I have. It's not ideal but think about wearing some type of protective covering. I was just out yesterday and, especially in areas downtown or the northside, there are hundreds of people out cramped on the bike path especially since the lake levels have risen, so there is potential for airborne transmission.

It would probably do you good to stay more on the south side where the path is not so crowded.

I've been using Divvy's nonstop during quarantine. They started throwing the electric bikes in there as well. They gotta make the map easier to follow but I think the takeaway is that if you live in a black neighborhood, you get 45 minutes for free as a member or 30 minutes free w/ a day pass. The white neighborhoods have to start paying as soon as they hop on the bike regardless of whether you are a member or not. No complaints from me :shaq:

Yeah, but they can get crowded. I lot of bobbing and weaving.

Try to hit a trail if you can. There are plenty, especially outside city limits.
