I lived in West Englewood for 7 years and I was over there a couple weeks ago and it was hella Mexicans on Damen. I was :mindblown: cuz they never came past 51st street when I stayed that way. Now they are in the 70's. I was telling my boy who grew up in Englewood but lives in the suburbs and he didn't believe me.

I used to live in Marquette Park, the mexicans used to all be west of Kedzie now they are takinh over even east of California.

There's now more Latinos than Black people in Chicago. The Latino areas up north are the main areas getting gentrified. Our neighborhoods are mad cheap.

Black people aren't going to stay if they aren't thriving.

Sounds like what happened in Los Angeles :scusthov:

And you're just talking about Damen..

They dipping down them side streets too..

Winchester, Seeley, wood, etc..

It's cool for now, because they're still low in numbers.. Wait until it becomes 50/50 over that way.. They gonna start with the :mjpls: on 71st and Damen..

In Chicago there are 3 truisms

1. Black folks leave or are forced out of neighborhoods thru abandonment/neglect/demolition

2. Mexicans take over former Black neighborhoods thru sheer numbers and cooperative investment

3. White people force Mexicans out through gentrification

Doesn’t always happen in that order but every shift can usually be explained by one of those.

Englewood - 1 and 2
N. Lawndale - much slower version of 1 and 2
Pilsen/Humboldt Park - 3
Little Village - much slower version of 3
Austin - 2
E. Garfield Park - only example of Black neighborhood slowly being taken over by white ppl w/o Hispanics as intermediate

Been looking at spots in whiting, tired of living in the 100s :mjpls:

@beaniemac

Honestly bro I would anything anywhere near. Mfers don't think about this enough but those areas are environmental disasters. You're going to find out 20 years from now that you've been living in an area that has cancer rates 20 times what is expected.

I seen them as far east as Ashland in Englewood. I saw one walking down 59th street near Loomis and one on 63rd and Halsted recently.

I must be blind because I ain't seeing them nikkas aside from workers.

oh they're definitely there. englewood for the ones that don't have money and more likely to be illegal and/or first time homeowners who might've been renting in little village/pilsen.

austin is where the ones with steady jobs and papers are going esp the ones priced out of logan square, humboldt park etc
