Both boxers agreed to be tested by Las Vegas-based VADA as part of their contracts for this HBO Pay-Per-View main event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

“His declarations are very stupid,” Alvarez said through a translator Tuesday. “What he’s saying is very stupid. Simply put, very stupid, because we’re talking about VADA – the top agency, very professional. Whether they do blood, whether they do urine, they know what they’re doing.”

Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) reminded reporters, too, that while he has never tested positive for anything, Chavez (50-2-1, 32 KOs, 1 NC) has failed multiple tests, both for a performance-enhancing drug and marijuana, during his 13-year pro career.

“I haven’t tested positive ever in my career,” Alvarez said.

“And he’s tested [positive] two or three times. So he should shut up and worry about himself, and stop saying those stupid things.”

The 31-year-old Chavez’s victory over Troy Rowland in November 2009 was changed to a no-contest because Chavez tested positive for using furosemide, a banned substance. Chavez admitted to taking that diuretic because he was struggling to make the middleweight limit of 160 pounds for that fight in Las Vegas. The Nevada State Athletic Commission suspended Chavez for seven months and fined him $10,000 for failing that PED test.

The NSAC later suspended Chavez for nine months and fined him $100,000 because he tested positive for marijuana following his September 2012 loss to then-middleweight champion Sergio Martinez in Las Vegas. The NSAC initially fined Chavez a whopping $900,000 for failing a second drug test in Nevada, but later reduced that penalty to $100,000.

He needs to get a run back, because Im now :jbhmm: on him.

He destroys everybody he faces as well, so, either Loma really is that great and GRJ is just beneath him but still a force (i.e. Floyd/Pac on a grander scale), or he isn't and Loma's W over him is overrated.

I'd love to see GRJ vs Shakur Stevenson by the way:wow:
GRJ needs to fight Valdez if we keepin it a buck

Breh I don't think I've ever seen a fighter who's power was overrated as much as canelo
I think Shane Mosley said Canelo has similar punching power to Floyd, or @Yuzo quoted that.

I'd think he'd have gained some with the weight and frame, we'll see.

If I were to rate Canelo's power on a 1-10 scale, he's prolly a 6.5 maybe a 7 at the most.

Dude's power is definitely above average tho. He punches correctly as fukk. I just think he doesn't get the most out of his power. He basically has offensive outbursts where he throw 2-4 heavy shots and then he has to rest to regain his energy to do it again. In addition, he doesn't really change the speed on his punches like that. His opponents know every shot is going to be hard so they brace for the impact. That's why even a shot Angulo was able to last as long as he did.

Canelo isn't lulling dudes into sneak bombs nor is he walking guys into big shots. He's just gonna stand in front of you and make you miss and then explode with a bunch of Balrog combos, wash, rinse, and repeat.

Guys like Broner, Tarver, Pac, will launch throwaway punches and then sneak in a nasty hard one. Canelo just throws everything hard. That's why he tires out so much.

nikkas act like Canelo is Trinidad with the Power, but he's closer to being a more athletic version of JMM and Swift hybrid and those 2 set up their counters better than Canelo since they do it in exchanges or walk guys into them.
Spot on analysis. Canelo is more l much more a boxer than a puncher imo.

Canelo: Chavez Could Quit; Once a Quitter, Always a Quitter

Canelo Alvarez didn’t hesitate Tuesday to continue his war of words with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Alvarez acknowledged during a conference call to promote their May 6 fight that he thinks he can make his Mexican rival quit. A reporter asked Alvarez if he thinks that’s a possibility because Oscar De La Hoya, Alvarez’s promoter, made Chavez’s father quit in their rematch and because Chavez Jr. himself quit against Andrzej Fonfara. “Everything’s possible in boxing,” Alvarez said through a translator. “And as the great Bernard Hopkins once said, once a quitter, always a quitter. So anything’s possible.” See more at: Canelo: Chavez Could Quit; Once a Quitter, Always a Quitter - Boxing News

The 140 guy huh?:jbhmm:

It took Canelo only 64 total punches landed and 170 punches thrown to KO Khan......it took the 140 guy more effort to get rid of Khan (65 punches landed and 216 thrown in order to KO Khan):hubie:

The 135 guy, yes, he finished Khan quicker.....but sometimes it goes like that :manny:

Since we're discussing power, or lack thereof :mjpls:, JCC Jr last 6 fights have been against guys who have all been KOd prior to facing him, but he still hasn't beaten anyone via KO since Andy Lee 5 years ago. Maybe we should discuss his lack of power as well :sas2:
I have been on the questionable JCC power for a long time. He only has a 50% KO percentage at 160, where he was always the bigger guy. He didn't have power that really seemed to scare guys at 160, they just got worn down due to size. At 175 his power didn't carry at all. We haven't really seen what it looks like at 168 because he has only fought Vera...who was dragged up from 160. Still wont know because Canelo when fighting in a natural weight class is 154 or 160.
