Garbage fights and tuneups are not the same.

First/2nd fight at a weightclass=tune up acceptable, garbage fights/massive mismatches should never be.

Yep.

Vargas fights nothing like Thurman and couldn't give 4 full rounds vs Spence...and Spence had only15 professional fights at the time. This is just a plain garbage fight bc of that (not a style preparation fight/Vargas is just not good enough for top fighters).

A tune-up would've been Danny Garcia vs someone like Chris Algieri/Diego Chaves/Aaron Martinez imo.

*edit* I already know what type of money they were offering....but Swift could've took less than what he's getting, in order to entice opponents, if he really wanted a better opp*

@Newzz, ratings aside, there were two key aspects to the Lemieux-GGG negotiations that were different than the Jacobs negotiations (not saying you don't know these, just haven't been talked about):

- GGG wanted Lemieux's belt and wasn't the mandatory. Lemieux could have told GGG to fukk off (a lot of people thought he should and not fight GGG in his first defense) and no one would have thought less of him.
- GGG wants to fight Canelo and a Lemieux fight gets his team negotiating with ODH and in theory on better terms. I would make Lemieux negotations easy and not worry as much about split if I wanted to do right by one ODH fighter to try and land the biggest one.

In many ways you could say that fight meant more to GGG than it did to Lemieux. I think the GGG-Jacobs fight means more to Jacobs than GGG. GGG has the real belt(s), is more popular, and seems to be closer to landing big fights (Canelo, BJS) than Jacobs is. Certainly having Jacobs name on his resume means something to GGG, but other than that, what does Jacobs bring that GGG has to have?

To me that is the logical argument. In reality, both dudes need to get together and make the fight and give a little on the split. The insider on the other thread said GGG was willing to give 30% and they were "okay" with that. He said Jacobs team really wanted 35%. Personally in my own interest of wanting to see the fight, I say if 2/3 and 1/3 is on the table, both sides should agree to it and let us see a great matchup.

Lee isn't a ducker :salute::
Andy Lee Wants Tough Fight, Gennady Golovkin Showdown - Boxing News

Former world champion Andy Lee (34-3-1, 24KOs) is looking to get back in the mix in a big way.

Lee has been inactive since last December, when he lost a twelve round decision, and his WBO middleweight championship, to Billy Joe Saunders.

According to Lee, he was going to fight on the undercard to Gennady Golovkin vs. Daniel Jacobs - which was targeted for December 10 in New York City, but that fight has been pushed back to next March at the earliest.

Lee would like to get in there would tough Argentinian Jorge Sebastian Heiland [28-4-2, 15KOs), who is currently ranked in the number position under the WBC.

A victory could propel Lee to a mandatory fight with Golovkin (36-0, 33KOs), who holds the WBC, WBA, IBO, IBF middleweight belts.

Heiland is best known for his knockout victory over Matthew Macklin. The rugged fighter from Argentina has also been hunting for a big fight.

At one point Lee had a deal wrapped up to face Golovkin in a big HBO televised showdown in 2014, but the bout fell through after GGG's father passed away.

According to Irish Boxing, Lee told Newstalk 106FM’s Off The Ball - “Originally it was supposed to be a prelim bout against an opponent of our choosing which would be like a comeback, somebody with a good record, maybe rated in the Top 20 – but the way things have developed, there’s a good chance I could fight Jorge Sebastian Heiland who is the WBC #1 contender. People might know him as he beat Matthew Macklin here in the 3Arena a couple of years ago now.”

“That’s a fight I’d like and a fight which would make sense for me. It would lead to a possible title fight with Golovkin so that’s what I’m hoping is in the works.”

That would have been a pretty dope card: Jacobs-GGG and Heiland-Lee...with the built in story line of the winners potentially fighting. :obama:

Frampton-Santa Cruz rematch highlights action-packed 2017 for PBC

It’s all courtesy of Premier Boxing Champions, which announced today that it will roll into its third season by once again partnering with a slew of broadcasting networks—including Fox, NBC, ESPN and Showtime/CBS—to feature the most talented fighters competing in some of the most compelling matchups the sport has to offer.

That includes the 126-pound rematch between Carl Frampton and Leo Santa Cruz on January 28, as well as the long-awaited Danny Garcia-Keith Thurman showdown set for March 4.

In addition to those pivotal contests, fight fans in 2017 will be treated to more prime-time action on network television than in either of the PBC’s first two seasons. For instance, Fox will televise three prime-time shows, with the first slated for February 25.

NBC will also air a trio of prime-time fight cards beginning on September 23. Additionally, Showtime/CBS will broadcast select PBC fights throughout the year, including Frampton-Santa Cruz II and Garcia-Thurman.

Beyond that, FS1 will carry 25 shows from February to October; ESPN will air a dozen PBC telecasts from April to August; Bounce will have quarterly matches beginning March 31; and PBC also returns to Spike as part the network’s Combat Sports Friday platform, with the first show scheduled for January 13.

Before turning the calendar to 2017, though, PBC will put on two big shows to close out this year. Garcia will headline a card on November 12 from his hometown of Philadelphia with a non-title fight against Samuel Vargas, while December 10 will feature a pair of world title fights. In the main event, 126-pound champion Jesus Cuellar will face former three-division champion Abner Mares, while 154-pound titleholder Jermall Charlo will risk his crown against unbeaten challenger Julian Williams at the Galen Center on the campus of USC in Los Angeles.

Stay tuned to PremierBoxingChampions.com for specific details regarding all 2017 fight cards, including main event matchups, as well as venues, ticket information and broadcast times.
