Srisaket Sor Rungvisai Wins Athlete of the Year Award

In a normal year beating the boxer regarded as being the pound for pound king twice would be more than enough to earn this accolade.
But in 2017 female golfer Ariya Jutanugarn claimed two LPGA titles and was tipped by many to pip Srisaket to the prize. However the super flyweight’s achievement in beating Roman Gonzalez by split decision in March and then knocking him out in September secured the coveted award.
Srisaket currently boasts a record of 44-4-1 and holds the WBC 115 lbs belt. However many of his victories have come at the expense of opponents with unimpressive records and he was 10/1 to win against the undefeated Gonzalez ahead of their first fight.
The Thai won that bout in Madison Square Garden by majority decision and it was regarded as a huge upset. Even the bookmakers weren’t upset and Srisaket went into the rematch as an underdog only to score a stunning one punch KO in the fourth round.
Srisaket’s trainer Chokchai Pisitwuttinan (pictured middle) was also honoured, receiving the ‘Coach of the Year’ award. In Muay Thai the SAT ‘Fighter of the Year’ was named as Phetmuangchon Por Suanthong who is currently riding a ten fight winning streak.
Gradovich Retires From Boxing Due To Issues With His Vision
By Igor Lazorin, tass
Last month, BoxingScene.com reported that Evgeny Gradovich, the former featherweight world champion of the International Boxing Federation (IBF), withdrew from a scheduled fight with Australian Terence "TJ" Doheny - set down for December 15 in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
The bout was sanctioned as an IBF super bantamweight eliminator.
According to Alexey Titov, executive director of the promotional company RCC Boxing Promotion, the contest was canceled due to undisclosed issues with the eyes of Gradovich. The fight was going to be part of the undercard to the heavyweight eliminator between Alexander Povetkin and Christian Hammer.
Titov has now revealed that his boxer will no longer fight - due to vision issues - and decided to retire from the sport.
"Evgeny Gradovich ended his career due to vision problems, he will live in the United States. As for training [fighters], he does not want to do it," Titov said.
Gradovich (23-2-1, 9 KOs) was riding high for several years as a Top Rank fighter who was trained by Robert Garcia and managed by well-known Egis Klimas.
He won the IBF title in 2013 with a victory over Billy Dibb and then retained the belt three times - including a TKO of Dibb in their rematch.
Gradovich began to decline in 2014, after fighting to a draw with Jayson Velez. The following year he lost a technical decision, and his world title, to current champion Lee Selby.
His next two fights were lackluster performances, where he won a split decision and a majority decision - which sent him up for an April 2016 clash with current WBO featherweight champion Oscar Valdez - who demolished Gradovich in four rounds at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas as part of the Manny vs. Tim Bradley trilogy card on HBO Pay-Per-View.
Gradovich dropped down to 122-pounds, but still he struggled to get clear cut wins with another two victories secured via split decision and majority decision.
Chin, work rate, power, defeats a AB every timeHow do y'all see this going? Figgy's workrate is nuts
Fukk type of comment is thatgood..cant be watching gradovich take punishment from cats that were not as talented as he was...hopefully the vision problems were the actual reason for his rapid decline..or was it the case of age catching up to the body
Lol I hope his vision is good too but it would explain why dude went from being a champion to struggling hard literally overnight..because I can't figure it out what else caused his type of declineFukk type of comment is that
Hopefully his vision is alright

NAAZIM RICHARDSON WARNS ANTHONY JOSHUA THE LONGER HE WAITS, THE MORE TROUBLE HE'LL HAVE WITH DEONTAY WILDER; EXPLAINS WHY
By Percy Crawford | December 20, 2017
“Deontay Wilder is fighting with street anger and emotion. Even that shyt you’re hitting him back with, he ain’t going to really feel till later on. Being that Deontay is a buddy of mine, I kind of hope they hold the Joshua fight off. Deontay is still a work in progress,” stated world-class trainer Naazim Richardson, who shared his thoughts on a future showdown between heavyweight champions Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua. Although Richardson admits that Wilder still appears to be a work in progress, he warns Joshua that the longer he waits to make the fight, the more trouble he will find himself in. Check out Richardson's explanation.
NAAZIM RICHARDSON ON JOSHUA VS. WILDER:
Them wide shots that Deontay can throw, Joshua could loop down the middle of those things right now. But you give Wilder a little more time and keep that cake in the oven a little more, these motherfukkers are in trouble. It goes back to the microwave era I tell you about all the time. Put that thing in a slow-cooker, let it simmer all night, and the food tastes different altogether. The same goes for a fighter. Don’t rush it; let it simmer, let that developmental process happen, and watch out. Don’t get it twisted though, Deontay Wilder fights anybody right now and they got problems. You wait a little while longer, when he starts correcting some of his mistakes and he starts to understand all of his gifts, these jokers going to really have a problem. And the beauty of it is, it’s all correctable problems. [Mark] Breland already working on it. The first time he fought Stiverne, Stiverne kept his hands high. He did something smart by making his offense his defense. He banged on Stiverne’s arms and made Stiverne scared to open his arms up. So Stiverne just stayed in a shell all day. He put cover fire on him where he couldn’t come up because there were just bullets flying. In the rematch, think about this, Wilder knocked a man unconscious who had his hands up the whole time. This man never dropped his hands and got hit with a shot. He went under the guard, he went around the guard, between the guard, and the guy never recovered from the first shot between the guard. And he’s getting the confidence now. He’s starting to believe. He damn near slung the referee out of the damn ring; big strong motherfukker (laughing). I actually think that Stiverne thought that weight was going to hold him up a little bit. Joshua has to be really careful he doesn’t do the same thing. He’s been coming in a little over as well.
Joshua is a better fighter. There’s no argument there, but that shyt don’t mean nothing. Listen, 60% of the fighters Wilder has fought is a better fighter than him. He doesn’t have the experience. He really should be at the National’s level. Deontay has the same experience as this kid we have in the gym that went to National’s this year. The excitement he carries…and that’s what he’s fighting on, that young excitement. He’s just happy to be here and he’s going to whoop anybody’s ass that gets in front of him. They talked all that shyt about, “He went to camp with Klitschko or David Haye and they showed a tape where they buckled him.” First of all, at that time, what the hell was that kid doing in the ring with a guy like David Haye? He was so damn young and inexperienced, who put that kid in there? I would be afraid that kid would go wild and cut my guy. What was he doing in there? That showed you that those guys already had him on the radar. And then they showed David Haye cracked him, but then when they showed the whole tape, they showed him jump back on David Haye's ass and he cracked David Haye too.
Deontay told me once, “Naazim, I ain’t never been afraid of a guy since I was a kid. I got that Bama strength and everybody that I’ve ever hit with this right hand responded. They blink, they shake their head, they backed up, they went down, they went to sleep, but nobody just ignored it like they weren’t hit.” And he said, “I know now, in 12 rounds, I’m going to hit you with it.” I told my son, “This kid going to be heavyweight champion.” He asked me what made me think that. I said, “The most impressive thing he said to me was that in 12 rounds, he knows he’s going to hit you. The biggest problem you would have with a guy like him is if he starts missing a lot, he may get antsy and make a mistake. Now he’s showing me that he’s going to stay patient.” See, he proved it to be when he fought Szpilka. Szpilka’s style is so awkward. And Szpilka surprised me that he could move like that for so long. Going into the second half of the fight, Szpilka was still throwing some crazy shyt at Deontay and I said, “An experienced guy could have problems; an inexperienced guy like Deontay could fall apart.” Deontay kept that thing together, man, and as soon as Szpilka was like that rabbit with nowhere to go, Deontay was like that hunter sitting up in that tree. He blew the back of his fukking brains out. This kid is for real and it’s about time people start to treat him like he is.
