Dan Rafael chat wrap 11/10:
- Adam Kownacki should return from his injury in January.
- Tyson vs. Joshua? Tyson.
- ODH told him he wants GGG vs. Canelo in May (not the rumored Lemieux-BJS winner and GGG in Sept.). Does he believe him? Not entirely.
- Believes Canelo vs. GGG 2 happens next year. The big question is it in May or September.
- Miller vs. Whyte? Good fight and would probably pick Miller. Let's see how he does vs. Wach.
- Taking Miller by decision.
- Has heard nothing about Sammy Vasquez.
- What does Hearn do for Jacobs that GB couldn't? Really probably nothing, other than Jacobs likely being more comfortable with Hearn.
- Who will be the undisputed HW champ at the end of 2018? Not Fury or Parker.
- Stiverne shouldn't have even been paid for his fight vs. Wilder. It was a fraudulent effort and it didn't look like he tried one bit.
- Casamayor vs. Santa Cruz? The single worst decision he has seen in person.
- LSC at 130? Definitely some guys he could outwork. But he is considered the #1 at 126 and seems to make weight okay.
- If the other offer Mikey Garcia says he has that caused him to turn down Linares is legit it is a good business move. Talked with Robert Garcia and he didn't know anything about it. Rumor is Haymon has offered $3 million to fight Easter.
- Robert Garcia has heard rumors Mikey may face Figueroa.
- Garcia would beat Figueroa easily. Easter would be a good matchup.
- Lubin vs. DeLoach? That has not been mentioned.
- Nothing Porter did vs. Granados showed he would be better vs. Thurman, other than the fact that the first fight was close and no reason a rematch wouldn't be the same.
- GGG vs. Charlo? Charlo is the mandatory, but does not believe it is due yet and if GGG asked for an exception would be shocked if it wasn't granted.
- Best divisions in boxing? WW is still #1, featherweight, cruiserweight, jr. middleweight, and light heavyweight are all very good.
- The only way he sees Joshua vs. Wilder getting done is if it was a 2 fight deal, where Wilder would likely fight Whyte and then Joshua.
- Can Fury come back and challenge Wilder and Joshua? Fury is still pretty young and not a lot of mileage, but his conditioning and inner fire always give you pause. Doubtful.
- Agrees that British fans and writers discuss Fury like he is a great one, but really had his career made by an off night from Wlad and would get handily beaten by Joshua and Wilder.
- Joshua would have KO'd the Wlad Fury fought within 3 rounds.
- Believes Wlad would have beaten Fury in a rematch.
- Wilder is a lot better than people give him credit for.
- Fury's ankle injury wasn't bad enough to keep him from a Wlad rematch, it was the cocaine.
- Rigo vs. Loma is sold out.
- Generally Canelo is scheduling fights the right way (similar to ODH). You make a big PPV fight and then follow it with an easier fight.
- Jose Ramirez is a huge draw in the Fresno area.
- Stevenson vs. Jack likely happens in early 2018. Alvarez should be stripped of his mandatory status. This will be the third or fourth time he has stepped aside from his mandatory fight. Either take it or get out of the way.
- Would not be shocked to see Andre Ward fight again.
- Jacobs by KO over Arias.
- Winky Wright is likely to get in the HOF.
- Loves a Charlo vs. Jacobs fight. Would lean Charlo.
- Broner has zero chance to get into the HOF.
- Did Bowe duck Lewis? Yes.
- Favorite in Beterbiev vs. Bivol? Great matchup, no idea on who the favorite would be.
- Do fighters want legacy over money? Yes. Some try to do both (Canelo, GGG). Wilder definitely wants legacy.
- HBO definitely had an influx of money to help their schedule, likely from GGG-Canelo.
- How much are promoters paying to be on CBS Sports Net? Not sure probably around $50k regional. UniMax pays TR a rights fee.
- Ramirez and Imam fight on Saturday. If they both win they will fight each other next and the winner will face the Regis-Prograis winner.
- Never interviewed Tommy Morrison in person, but did so over the phone. He was very delusional about his situation and very paranoid.
- Fernando Vargas for the HOF? No. Fun to watch, but not a HOF'er. Thought he lost vs. Winky, had one big win vs. Quartey (who was coming off a long layoff and moving up in weight).
- ODH vs. Tszyu at 140? ODH.
- Edwin Rodriguez vs. Chad Dawson? Rodriguez if he comes in shape.
- Benavidez is supposed to fight Gavril. Gilberto Ramirez is supposed to fight Feb. 3.
- Luis Ortiz and his team were at the Wilder fight wearing Team Ortiz sweatsuits like it meant something. Nobody cared.
- Kovalev vs. Beterbiev in 2018? No chance.
- Active fighters that should make the HOF? Cotto,Pacquiao, RJJ, and Toney for sure. Canelo and GGG both very likely. Crawford is on the right path.
- Beterbiev dominates Koelling.
- Chocolatito could be coming back in February on ESPN.
- Wilder vs. a (clean) Luis Ortiz? Wilder in a tough fight.
- Thoughts on Nico Hernandez? Good prospect and draws pretty well in his home region. Will have trouble finding fights in the US in his weight division.
- Lipinets vs. Kondo? Had it 115-113 for Lipinets.
- The Showbox card is a good one. Lots of good prospects.
- Bob Foster was a great fighter and devastating puncher. One of the best LHW's ever.
- In Hopkins fight vs. Pascal, Hopkins was slightly overweight and left and shortly came back and made weight. Hopkins later told him he had meant to take a crap before the weigh-in and forgot, so he left to take a crap and came back and weighed in.
- Who fights away from their home country first: Joshua or Horn? Joshua.
- Schaefer says the Dorticos fight may be in Miami.
- Nietes vs. Reveco? Really good fight, just no interest in the US. Would lean Nietes.
