except shots being aimlessly fired in the air for no reason:manny:

Tonight though, on Showtime, we have Joel Diaz Jr vs Regis Prograis...I'd like to discuss that but it seems nobody wants to talk prospects anymore:mjcry:

Unbeaten prospects Regis Prograis and Joel Diaz Jr. square off on Hall of Fame weekend

Showtime's "ShoBox: The New Generation" was built on a singular premise of prospects facing potentially their toughest test in an attempt to take the next step up the boxing ladder.

Rarely in the 16-year history of the series has a fight fit that description any better than the main event of the next card, when junior welterweight Regis Prograis (19-0, 16 KOs) squares off with Joel Diaz Jr. (23-0, 19 KOs) in a 10-round bout on Friday night (Showtime, 10:30 ET/PT) at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York.

Where: Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York
When: Friday
TV: Showtime, 10:30 p.m. ET/PT

It's a special Hall of Fame edition of the series because the International Boxing Hall of Fame is a few minutes away in Canastota, and on Sunday longtime ShoBox broadcasters Barry Tompkins and Steve Farhood will be inducted in the observer category.

Joining them on a tripleheader telecast will be fellow Hall of Famers Al Bernstein, who calls fights for "Showtime Championship Boxing," and ring announcer Jimmy Lennon Jr., whose father, Jimmy Lennon Sr., also a world-renowned ring announcer, will be inducted posthumously.

But first they'll watch as Prograis, who will be in his fourth ShoBox bout, and Diaz, competing in his third, attempt to score their biggest victory and make the jump from prospect status to contender.

The 28-year-old Prograis, a southpaw fighting out of Houston, has knocked out 12 of his past 13 opponents and knows how important the bout is for his career.

"I have worked hard to get here, and I am on a hunt for the title belts," he said. "Diaz is standing in the way of my ultimate objective and I know that I must defeat him to get where I want to be. He needs to get past me to move onto the next level himself, so I am sure he is equally motivated. That is what makes for great fights." Diaz, 25, of Palmdale, California, has scored seven knockouts in a row and indeed wants to get to the same place in boxing as Prograis.

"[Friday], I will be more than ready to hand Regis Prograis his first defeat," Diaz said. "ShoBox fans are in for a treat as this will be a thriller while it lasts. When the smoke clears, I know that I will be the one left standing."

In the scheduled eight-round co-feature, super middleweight Steve Rolls (15-0, 9 KOs), 33, of Toronto, will face Demond Nicholson (17-1-1, 16 KOs), 24, of Laurel, Maryland.

"I know that Nicholson can fight and I expect him to come prepared," Rolls said.

Said Nicholson: "My time is now. Any time that I am able to showcase my talent in front of a national audience means a lot. I am very humbled and thankful to be a part of this card. I saw Rolls' fight against Steed Woodall (a fourth-round knockout win on ShoBox in 2015). I think he has a lot to learn, and I will teach him a lesson. I look forward to victory and continuing to move up the world rankings."

The eight-round opening bout will feature good-looking junior lightweight prospect Jon Fernandez (12-0, 10 KOs), a 21-year-old from Spain, who is promoted by former middleweight world champion Sergio Martinez's Maravillabox Promotions. He'll face Mexico's Juan Reyes (14-3-3, 2 KOs), 27, who fights out of Bell Gardens, California.

"This is another big opportunity for me to show everybody that I am one of the best [130-pounders] in the world," said Fernandez, who will be fighting in the United States for the third time. "In my last fight (on April 21), I won the Spanish title, something that I am very proud to have achieved. Now I will travel back to the U.S. to face anybody that my promoter puts in front of me. I am very confident in my skills and my team is doing great work with my career."

Reyes has won two fights in a row, but it would be a major upset if he wins.

"This is the opportunity I have been waiting for my entire career," Reyes said. "I make real wars out of my fights because that is my style and it works for me. Jon Fernandez will have his hands full because I am coming to win."

Martinez says he thinks he has a future world champion on his hands in Fernandez.

" 'Jonfer' is a talented and hard-working young man that will archive great things. He's destined for greatness," Martinez said. "With his potential and work ethic, I have no doubt he'll be a world champion one day. I will take it a step further and say that he will become next pound-for-pound champion. He is ready to win this fight by knockout and call out the top names in his weight class."

All I'm gonna say is this is why I'm a big proponent of shooting the 5. It's obvious nikkas is holding grudges and harboring resentment. shyts not healthy. Either let it go, or let it out through productive ways. This just straight nonsense right now. That's all I got to say about that :manny:

Tonight's fight should be very good though. I've had my eye on Prograis for a while now. He's definitely legit

joel diaz jr is cool...he has a mean right hand from what i remember but defense is not the greatest yet..which is surprising considering hes trained by his father..prograis is more polished offensively and defensively to me

Felix Trinidad Hoping To Avoid Losing Everything, Being Bankrupt

By Elisinio Castillo

At age 44 and nine years since his last bout, boxing legend Felix 'Tito' Trinidad faces the biggest fight of his life. The boxer has been in litigation for three years against Banco Popular de Puerto Rico, where he aims to secure the cancellation of a debt for fraud of more than 2.9 million dollars plus compensation for damages. The case is finally getting near the end.

In an interview with the radio program El Goldo y Pelua of Puerto Rican Mega Station, Trinidad talked about his economic situation at the present.

"I have lost almost all my money," Trinidad was quoted as saying by Albert Perez. "In the event I lose the case, I can remain, as has been said in the press, in total bankruptcy."

In his 18-year career in the professional ranks of boxing, 'Tito' won world titles in three different weight divisions and generated more than $90 million in earnings.

He accuses his former financial advisor and friend, Jose 'Pepe' Ramos, of defrauding him and his father, Felix Trinidad Sr., by way of a "fraudulent scheme that he was doing with all the banks."

If the worst happens, and Trinidad loses his legal battle, the Hall of Famer has already ruled out the possibility of returning to the ring out of necessity.

"It's frustrating because already at my age ... my reflexes and my skills are no longer the same to go back to boxing," he confessed.

The boxer and his father lost some $63 million through investments linked to Puerto Rico government bonds, according to legal documents filed in 2014 in San Juan Superior Court.

Trinidad and his father are seeking an injunction to halt San Juan-based Popular Securities, a brokerage arm of Puerto Rico's biggest bank, Banco Popular, from collecting a $2.9 million debt.

The injunction request included a complaint filed with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, in which the Trinidads accused their financial adviser Ramos of making risky investments without their consent or knowledge and allegedly misled them about the level of risk in other investments.

"The accusations by the Trinidad family are false and the truth will come out when this case is aired in the pertinent forum," Ramos said in a written statement.

Nearly all of Trinidad's net worth was invested in Puerto Rico government bond funds, according to the documents. Ramos has been the boxer's financial adviser for years while working at many of the largest brokerages in Puerto Rico.

Dillian Whyte is set to make US debut as he works towards a world title and Anthony Joshua rematch

Dillian Whyte is set to make US debut as he works towards a world title and Anthony Joshua rematch

Promoter Eddie Hearn hopes to guide Dillian Whyte towards a world title this year
Dillian Whyte will continue his pursuit of a world title fight in America this summer as he plots a path towards a rematch with Anthony Joshua, says promoter Eddie Hearn.

The Brixton heavyweight was forced to pull out of a scheduled bout with Mariusz Wach through injury and will instead make his US debut in the coming weeks.

Whyte has already worked his way into the top 10 of the WBC and WBO rankings, and Hearn is hopeful he can secure a fight with one of the champions later this year.

Whyte can secure a second fight with Anthony Joshua in the future, says Hearn
"We're going to look to box Dillian in the States in the summer and then we want a world title fight in September or October, whether that's [Joseph] Parker, whether that's Deontay Wilder," Hearn exclusively told Sky Sports.

"He's well ranked in those governing bodies. He's a great opponent, but I don't think they really want to fight him. I don't think Dillian Whyte is the kind of guy you want to pick as a world champion.

He's a nightmare for people, Dillian Whyte, but for some reason Anthony Joshua wants to do it all again with him.
Eddie Hearn

"He's a handful, he can punch, he's got a great chin. He's a handful even in the press conference, you might have to roll around with him at those as well.

"He's a nightmare for people, Dillian Whyte, but for some reason Anthony Joshua wants to do it all again with him. That gives you a good indication - AJ wants real fights - he wants to entertain the public."

skysports-anthony-joshua-dillian-whyte-boxing_3937600.jpg

Joshua has welcomed the opportunity to share the ring with Whyte again after his victory in their first fight
Hearn admits Whyte's future options could also include a rematch with Dereck Chisora, or a grudge fight against Lucas Browne, but a second battle with Anthony Joshua is the No 1 target.

"We are trying to get him a shot at a world title," he said. "I believe he can beat Joseph Parker and I believe he can beat Deontay Wilder.

"If he can, that sets up a massive unification fight with Anthony Joshua."

So while Joshua handles his business wth Klitschko and/or Pulev Hearn is trying to set up Wilder vs Whyte?

Actually I wouldn't mind that fight.
