World Boxing Council lightweight champion Mikey Garcia (36-0 30 KOs) is preparing himself for the biggest fight of his career, on July 29, when he moves up to the junior welterweight division to face former four division world champion Adrien Broner (33-2 24 KO).

Garcia clarified that he will return to lightweight after his fight against Broner.

"It all started two weeks ago, we were trying to fight Terry Flanagan (WBO Champion) or Jorge Linares (WBA Champion), but those plans were [further off] and they mentioned Broner," Garcia told ESPN Deportes.

The fight with Broner is still without an official venue, although New York would be the first option.

The unbeaten Mexican set down his requirements for the fight with Broner and they were not complicated.

"The only thing I asked of them was that the fight not go beyond 140 pounds, that was my limit. I still feel like a lightweight and Adrien took the fight [at that weight] without much negotiation. I want to unify my lightweight championship against Jorge Linares or Terry Flanagan but preferably Linares. I would like more titles, but I do intend to get down to lightweight after the Broner fight," emphasized García.

"For my protection, we did ask for penalties if we does not make the weight. But he accepted the fight at 140, there were no problems. He did not ask [for a higher weight] and that motivates me."

The undefeated three-division champion did not rule out the possibility of a showdown with WBC/WBO junior welterweight champion Terence Crawford, who beat Garcia in the amateurs.

"He's a very good fighter, maybe the best at 140 pounds. I heard he's looking for a unification with [IBO, WBA, IBF champion Julius] Indongo. After that if he's available, and he does not go up to 147, then that's the name we have to face at 140," Garcia said.
