Dan Rafael chat wrap 5/19:

- Canelo vs. Sergio Martinez? The Sergio that Cotto beat, Canelo could beat. Prime Sergio would give Canelo a tough fight and either guy could win.
- Doesn't think Cotto retires despite parting ways with RN.
- Cotto vs. Brook or Khan? Doable, but everyone needs to be realistic on money.
- Cotto vs. Lara? Doesn't think anyone would want to watch that.
- Brook has a great sense of humor, in regards to comparing Khan to the Kardashians.
- Canelo has shown a good chin and GGG is a great puncher. Canelo has pretty good defense. Will be interesting to see that matchup.
- GB has said they are going to hear out proposals from different sites to hold the fight, so we won't hear an announcement on where the fight will be held for awhile.
- For previous fights Jerry Jones was giving a site fee of $5-6 million, if he wants Canelo-GGG it will have to be way more.
- GGG vs. Hopkins at MW prime? GGG has a chance, might be the favorite.
- Why are people saying GGG got exposed vs. Jacobs, when he wasn't hurt? Because they are morons.
- Terrence Crawford isn't boycotting the media, he just has some members he prefers not to talk to and when he does talk to you he isn't an easy interview.
- Picking Crawford by late stoppage.
- Promotion for Crawford vs. Diaz has only been okay.
- Crawford isn't a bigger star because he isn't a great interview and hasn't had a defining fight. Fighting at MSG will only raise his profile. He is still young, plenty of time to continue to build his profile.
- Will making weight hurt Davis vs. Walsh? No, he will still win easily.
- Barrera was scheduled to make 65k vs. Beterbiev. Imagines he will make at least a 100k vs. Smith.
- Don't think we ever see a rematch between GRJ and Lomachenko unless it becomes a mandatory or if it becomes really compelling. Arum and Haymon don't rush to do deals and the first fight Loma schooled GRJ, so no need for it now.
- Arum wants Lomachenko vs. Salido in August, but a long way from securing it.
- Officials for Ward vs. Kovalev 2 were set today at the Nevada commission meeting. Referee will be Tony Weeks and judges will be Dave Morretti, Steve Weisfield, and Glen Feldman.
- Pacquiao vs. Horn likely on TR PPV.
- Expects Klitschko to announce his plans for the future by the end of this month.
- Wlad still loves fighting. He knows he was close to beating Joshua and would make $20 million + for a rematch. Has said he admires how Hopkins fought past 50. Would like to fight as long as he was healthy and still enjoyed it.
- Other than Shakur Stevenson, keep an eye on Teofimo Lopez Jr. and Fazliddin Gaibnazarov tomorrow. Both very good prosepcts.
- Can see either Dirrell or Uzcategi winning. Leaning towards Dirrell, thinks his skills are better.
- Most view Spence vs. Brook as a toss up fight. Might want to see how Brook makes weight.
- Briggs titles in three different decades don't deserve much credit. One was as fake as a $3 bill, the other was a last second lucky shot vs. Liakhovich, and a gift decision vs. Foreman.
- McGregor's sparring videos look really bad.
- SRL is 61 and would beat McGregor in a boxing match if the fought tomorrow.
- Over/under 4 million PPV buys for Floyd vs. McGregor? Under.
- Did Calzaghe duck major competition during his prime? No, Frank Warren did.
- Seems outdated that a boxing commission would give a physical check to fighters.
- Not sure there will be another PBC show on Fox.
- Doubt we get a PBC date on NBC later this year.
- DeGale vs. Jack 2 is not going to happen. LSC-Frampton 3 could happen, but not immediately.
- GB wants to get Diego De La Hoya a contender later this year before a title fight opportunity.
- No news on Imam, Dulorme, Sadam Ali, Arreola, Devon Alexander, Quillin, or Bika.
- Would like to see Garcia vs. Linares next, but it won't be. Garcia likely fights July 22 in LA vs. TBA on Showtime.
- Not sure what the holdup is on the Dirrell vs. Smith fight.
- No doubt in his mind that JCC will fight again.
- Cotto for HOF? Yes.
- Crawford vs. Indongo in late 2017 for all 4 belts? Could see it happening, but the IBF could decide to strip Indongo.
- Would prefer to see Joshua fight Klitschko in a rematch and then fight Wilder.
- Beterbiev is supposed to fight in an eliminator which would put him in line for the winner of Ward-Kovalev, but who knows what will happen since he sued to get out of his promotional contract.
- Believes Bellew will stay at HW because he can make more money there.
- Predictions for the GRJ card: GRJ by toyage, Dirrell in a tough fight, and Escandon by KO.
- Would like to see Charlo face anyone good at 160. He is position to face Heiland which would be an eliminator to become a mandatory for one of GGG's belts.
- Favorite HW of all time? Tyson. Then prime Holyfield.
- Lemieux vs. Pavlik? Great fight. Would lean towards Pavlik because of his height, reach, power, and probably quicker hands.
- June 2 there will be a 24/7 for Ward vs. Kovalev.
- Why isn't Moorer considered a 3x champ? At the time WBO titles weren't considered to be serious.
- JMM is a top 10 Mexican fighter.
- Kirkland isn't retired, but certainly done as a meaningful fighter.

You have Granados over Orzoco?

I think Orozco, Molina Jr, and Burns should all be ranked above him:hubie:
Granados beating Imam who was considered a blue chip prospect by many was enough for me. Whereas Orozco still hasn't stepped up his game eve though he's lurking around the mandatory spots for years now and Burns never should have become a champion in this division, he beat Michele Di Rocco for it, like c'mon already WBA... :francis:

Molina is arguable, yeah

Canelo had the #1 GGG stan, the leader of #GGGodboys go :whoa:

:bryan:
:troll:

I don't think so. Hopkins never had much problems with fighters like Golovkin )style wise) until he was like 50...

- Why are people saying GGG got exposed vs. Jacobs, when he wasn't hurt? Because they are morons.

The question itself is stupid. Nobody said Golovkin's chin got exposed. Being exposed =/= you've got a bad chin. I won't say he "got exposed" cause that's ot true but he gets those critics cause when he met his bet opponent to date who still was a 15 to 1 underdog or so he only got an arguable decision, not a robbery but an arguable decision.

People need to come down from this habit of calling even Lomachenko taking a shyt genius and breath taking. I've seen some schoolings in boxing, this was not among them. This was a 116-112 fight or so...

- Would like to see Garcia vs. Linares next, but it won't be. Garcia likely fights July 22 in LA vs. TBA on Showtime.

Nice, another empty weekends filled.

- Would prefer to see Joshua fight Klitschko in a rematch and then fight Wilder.

rematch isn't that necessary but it's not bad either and Wlad probably will demand it by his right anyway so I can rock with this scenario.

- Why isn't Moorer considered a 3x champ? At the time WBO titles weren't considered to be serious.

And it should have stayed like that :stopitslime:

The more I think about it the more I thin a Wlad-Joshua rematch is very necessary and the fight I would want first for Joshua.

- The first fight was close and IMO stopped too early. So I think it is fair to give Wlad another shot.
- One extra connected punch by either Wlad or Joshua when they had the other man hurt could have ended the fight and given either guy a victory.
- I assume the fight will be in the UK again. Heard it possibly would be in another location due to weather, but it would still have a huge capacity. No fight in boxing could fill as many seats or an atmosphere like Wlad-Joshua in the UK (Canelo-GGG would be second).
- The first fight was great for boxing and the HW division. This continues off what the first built.
- Hopefully Wilder can get his exception to fight Parker and he can unify a title with what would be Wilder's highest profile fight.
- Allow for a natural build up to a Joshua-Wilder to take place and have it be a true mega fight.

Canelo vs GGG in Mexico would destroy that atmosphere imo:wow:

Matter of fact, I really hope Canelo does face someone in Mexico, in a big fight, before his career is over.....Chavez/Haugen style:banderas:

I agree. I was actually thinking about that, but what led me not to acknowledge it was no chance of it happening. GGG's team has said they would fight in Mexico City as a build up fight to Canelo, but no way they would actually take Canelo there. Might be the biggest home field advantage in boxing. Canelo would summon Mayan and Aztec gods in his punches. :whoa:

That said, Canelo should take a fight there one day. Atmosphere would be :wow:.

Canelo/Chavez should've been in Mexico:mjcry:
