Urgh! fukk that filthy Slag.
MONTREAL - Artur Beterbiev (#2 IBF - 11-0, 11 KOs) saw another potential opponent stray from his path, as Sullivan Barrera (#7 IBF - 18-1-0, 13 KOs) walked away from the IBF lightweight title bout scheduled for April 21 in Miami, Florida.

It should be remembered that on February 2, GYM had won the official purse bid held by the IBF, by placing US $ 201,000 against US $ 181,000 by Barrera's promoter Main Events.

"Sullivan Barrera never signed his contract and never wanted to face Beterbiev despite his public pretensions. Regardless of the reasons he could say, the truth is he was afraid of Beterbiev," said GYM President Yvon Michel, from Le Cannet in France, where he is staying for business.

"We are very disappointed with the turn of events and Artur is as well," Michel added. "Artur continues his training, we will ask the IBF to qualify him as a mandatory challenger and we will wait for their decision. He's ready to face any kind of light heavyweight in the world! "

Barrera is another name from a long list of fighters who have refused to face Beterbiev in the IBF elimination process in order to nominate a mandatory challenger for the champion, Andre Ward (31-0, 15 KOs).

Russia's Sergey Kovalev (# 3 IBF - 30-1-1, 26 KO), Swedish contender Erik Skoglund (# 4 IBF - 26-0-0, 12 KW), America's Sean Monaghan (# 5 IBF - 28-0-0, 17 KOs) and Germany's Enrico Koelling (# 6 IBF - 22-1-0, 6 KOs) - refused the call when contacted to take part in the IBF eliminator with Beterbiev.

then later

It was announced on Tuesday, that light heavyweight contender Sullivan Barrera (18-1, 13 KOs) would face Paul Parker (8-1, 4 KOs) on April 15th - as the main event bout of an HBO Latino card from the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Barrera, who last year lost a unanimous decision to Andre Ward, was supposed to have faced Artur Beterbiev in an IBF elimination bout on a late April date from Miami, Florida.

There were an actual purse bid, which was won by Beterbiev's promoter Yvon Michel of GYM. So what happened?

Main Events CEO Kathy Duva, who promotes Barrera, explained the details to BoxingScene.com:

"When Yvon sent us the contract he didn't have a date, he didn't have a site. We told him, 'Listen the rules are you have to have a date and a site.' So he came back with a date but he had alternative sites on it. Our feeling was... OK, whatever, [the sites] were both in Miami, who cares where it is," Duva said.

"But Sullivan, he lives in Miami, and he was hearing rumors that the fight wasn't happening and we said to him, 'Look, if they don't put the fight on they've defaulted [on their purse bid win] and we'll take over and put the fight somewhere else.' But for whatever reason I think he became very anxious that he was training and spending money and they did have a deadline of I think it was March 3rd or March 4th where the venue was going to be - they were well past that deadline."

Barrera had made it very clear on social media platforms like Twitter, where he expressed his concerns over the Beterbiev fight and the contract he was sent over. Eventually this match-up dissolved and Barrera was placed on this card at the Mohegan Sun

"So we still hadn't completed this deal for this particular show that we were doing for a host of reasons and we were able to salvage it for him,'' said Duva, who says that the relationship with her client "is as good as it's ever been."

I dont hold the win over Hopkins that high, due to age, and I dont think Fonfara is that good either....Cleverly was giving him that work

I can respect it, but I think Fonfara is better than Barrera though. Cleverly is decent so I don't hold that against him. Hell, Campillo was putting hands on Fonfara too, but he always manages to still get his.

Dan Rafael chat wrap 5/12:

Canelo vs. JCC:
- JCC isn't that good to begin with, doesn't fight using his size/height advantage, and can't jab well.
- Officially done with JCC.
- Believes that being drained did have an affect on JCC.
- If Canelo could have gotten a KO he would have.
- Thought it would sell 750-800k PPV buys, surprised by the results.
- Before the official weigh-in Canelo and JCC had a secret weigh-in on a digital scale (more accurate than the deadweight scale used at official weigh-ins) to determine both fighters weight for any contractual penalties. A weight over 154.5 up to 155.6 would cost $1 million. If a fighter weighed in over 155.6 it would cost $2 million. JCC weighed in at 163.6 and Canelo weighed in at 163.8.

Canelo vs. GGG:
- Jerry Jones says he really wants to get the fight. Believes the location will be between Cowboys Stadium and T-Mobile Arena in Vegas. Jones could get it if he puts his money where his mouth is.
- If this fight took place a year ago would have heavily favored GGG, now has GGG as a slight favorite. Canelo has improved, become a two handed fighter, and shown a good chin. GGG looked human against Jacobs.
- One of the fights he has looked forward to the most in his life.
- Weight is 160 lbs. Ring will be standard 20x20 size. Canelo has a rematch clause, GGG does not. There will be VADA testing.
- Doesn't think the crappiness of the JCC fight hurts this one at all, PPV sales wise.
- Suspected that the fight had been made prior to the JCC fight, but did not know for sure.
- Over/under 750k PPV buys? Well over.
- Possible Chocolatito vs. Sor rematch is on the undercard.
- Both Canelo and GGG can jab very well, don't think the jab will be the difference in the fight.
- Canelo has about another 10 fights (wins) that were never reported to Fight Fax, they should be on his official record, but they are not.
- Canelo for the HOF? He certainly is headed that way.
- Bigger star: Canelo or Joshua? Canelo. He generates more money than Joshua. PPV in the US makes more than PPV in the UK.

The rest of boxing:
- If Crawford beats Diaz would be in favor of an Indongo fight before moving up to 147.
- Barthelemy could be a good challenge for Crawford, but he has no fan base, no title, and is pretty unknown. Very unlikely Arum and Haymon would make that fight.
- Many view Shakur Stevenson as a future star in boxing.
- Matthysse looked sharp and can fit in with anyone at 147. Would love to see him fight Pacquiao. A fight with Broner would be interesting.
- Rahman's sons fight was over too quick to gauge his skill set. It was an impressive KO, so definitely wants to see more of him.
- Floyd couldn't give a damn about a deadline Dana White sets.
- Buyer beware on Mayweather vs. McGregor if it happens. It will sell based off of people being intrigued, but the fight likely won't be interesting.
- Has no info or thoughts about the Ward-Kovalev face off falling apart. Just another lost opportunity for a low key promotion.
- Gervonta Davis should beat Liam Walsh pretty easily.
- Gamboa is done.
- When Hopkins beat ODH and then lost to Taylor were the only two times someone has gotten all four belts in one fight.
- Szpilka might face Breazeale later this summer.
- Loves the idea of Valdez vs. LSC, but doubts it will happen.
- Muira vs. Berchelt will be in June/July.
- Lemieux vs. Lee would be a good fight.
- Arum is hoping to make a Lomachenko-Salido rematch this summer. Arum has mentioned Chicago as a possibility.
- JoJo Diaz is a great guy but will have a hard time being a star if his fights are as boring as his last one.
- The Parker fight was terrible. Likes Parker, but would favor Wilder and Joshua over him.
- Mosley vs. Hatton at 147 in 2007? Mosley.
- Mosley has a fight planned for September in Russia.
- It is a shame Thurman is going to sit until November for no reason.
- Toney is brain damaged and still gets a license, it is a disgrace.
- Mathew vs. Franklin 1 was a great action fight (and later Mathew vs. Saad Mohammad).
- Ricardo Lopez all time top 25 PFP? Yes.
- No idea what Charlo does in his first fight at 160. He is exactly the type of fighter who needs to sign with a promoter and not rely on Haymon. He is in his prime, in a relatively hot division, and prime earning potential. He has been out of the ring since a great fight in December and nothing on the horizon.
- Micky Ward for HOF? Love Ward, but he is not HOF material.
- Seems likely that Joshua would have to give up the IBF belt if Klitschko gets a rematch. Unfortunate.
- Told that Cotto has signed to fight Kamegai June 24.
- If Fury never fought again would he make the HOF? Not a chance.
- Harder puncher: Lemieux or Julian Jackson? Jackson.
- Prime Vitali vs. Joshua? Vitali.
- Not sure if the ordered Smith Jr. vs. Gvozdyk gets made. Would pick Gvozdyk pretty easily.

I disagree, he was drained to me. I said it once the catchweight was announced, I said it when they were giving updates on his current weight, and I said it when he weighed in.........he was drained:manny:

Nacho's comments: "He says he did not eat, I saw him eating egg whites..." are incorrect, because Chavez never said he didn't eat. He said: "In the last two weeks I ate very little, and last week I ate almost nothing" and eating egg whites is eating almost nothing imo.

Eating egg whites, and going as hard as they were to make weight, is not enough food to sustain energy breh...Im not even going to allow someone saying "I saw him eating egg whites" to act like that means he wasn't drained, because the body doesn't lie:hubie:

At the end of the day, the buildup, weigh in, fight, and post fight all played out exactly how I thought from day 1. Only thing that I was wrong about is Canelo getting a KO via body shot:yeshrug:

Nacho Contradicts Chavez Jr. Claims of Starving Himself, Weight - Boxing News

I agree with you.

Egg whites? Yeah that really fills you up.

My opinion is we have a guy in Chavez Jr, who should be fighting at 175, but wants to insert himself in the mix at 160 despite outgrowing the division a long time ago. Some may argue if he were to continue, he could fight at 168, but I think he would still be drained. He's finally at a point in his life were he doesn't have to worry about outgrowing a division (175). The problem is he would have to fight guys his own size. He looked very energetic against Fonfara despite that asswhooping. He's not gonna fight with that type of energy at lower weight classes.

He can try the "lure guys from 160 to fight at 168" approach, but he's still going to be drained and looking like shyt imo.

If this bum wants to continue, here is my suggestion, go on what I call the "Hasim Rahman" Boxing Plan. Remember when Hasim would have a bad lost? He would spend the entire following year fighting nothing but bums to get his confidence back and weight down.

Jr needs to accept his weight class of 175, stay in Mexico, fight bums, and work on his craft. Go on a 5 fight winning streak, then call out whoever is the light heavyweight king at the time, CON the public out of another payday, take an asswhooping, & then retire.
