Dan Rafael chat wrap 4/8:
- Spoke with Crawford's team last night and they are not happy with the numbers he is being offered for the Postol PPV. He has been offered seven figures (it would be a career high payday), but not enough for what he has asked for. It is a PPV that will sell 125k max and TR's numbers are very tight on budget. Currently they are apart by several hundred thousand dollars.
- Any reason why fighters are turning down the money for fights TR is putting on? They don't understand the business. TR will offer a fight and if they don't accept TR will move on to the next fighter who will accept. Mikey Garcia was offered career high money and turned it down, so TR invested in Crawford. If Crawford turns down career high money, TR will give his date to someone else.
- If Joshua wins, Showtime probably has the inside track on signing him since they are televising Saturday's fight. They may have an option on him for one more.
- If Floyd comes back he wants to see him vs. the best opponent available. Thurman-Porter winner would be good, if Bradley wins on Saturday he is interesting as well.
- Believes Valdez beats Gradovich easily.
- Picking Bradley W12, Abraham KO10, and Joshua KO4.
- Picking Bradley because he doesn't think he hurts his legs or feet again, slipping of Pacquiao, and some benefit of having Atlas.
- Rate the Bradley vs. Pacquiao card overall? A-.
- PPV buy prediction? Maybe 400k.
- Hasn't seen closed circuit for the Bradley vs. Pacquiao fight. Believes it may not be available due to the fight not being sold out.
- Devin Haney is a nice kid and has a reputation as a superb prospect.
- Too Sharp is one of his favorite fighters and he voted him 16th on his top 25 list.
- RJJ being anything other than #1 or #2 on the top 25 list is bad. He voted RJJ #1, as well as Brian Campbell.
- His biggest complaints were RJJ not being higher, Too Sharp not making the list, and Whitaker should have been higher. Wlad and Tszyu were his last two cuts he didn't include on his list.
- Everyone believes Mikey Garcia is going to sign with Haymon. Mikey Garcia turned down fights because of the money. He once told him that he only boxed because of the money.
- Edwin Rodriguez vs. Thomas Williams Jr. is a shootout 50/50 fight. He gives the slight edge to Rodriguez. Winner will be talked about as a Stevenson opponent.
- Arthur Abraham HOF? No.
- Nothing new on Javier Fortuna. His promoter did talk to TR about a Lomachenko fight.
- Agrees that the probability of losing vs. Lomachenko may have played a part in Walters turning the fight down. He would have made a career high payday and if he lost still can come back from it. Is it better to not take fights and turn down very good money? Walters turned it down on money, there was no disagreement on a contract extension or future options from TR.
- Very bad look that Spike lets a two time PED test failure (Tarver) call fights.
- How good of a chance is there that Danny Jacobs vs. GGG happens? Slim.
- Lomachenko vs. Martinez has been agreed to, working through paperwork.
- Talked with his colleague Wally Matthews last night about Bradley and the HOF. He thinks if Bradley beats Pacquiao he deserves a HOF spot, Wally wasn't so sure.
- Bradley's resume is superb. One of the best among active boxers.
- Juan Francisco Estrada will fight in June or July.
- Cotto vs. Brook this summer? Zero chance.
- Canelo vs. Bradley/Pacquiao winner talk is definitely something that will be discussed.
- Abraham vs. Pavlik when Pavlik was at his best after the first Taylor fight? Abraham.
- How do trainer's get paid? Some get a % and some get a flat fee. Freddie gets a flat fee from Pacquiao and they negotiate it before each fight.
- Martin deserves credit for not sitting on the title and taking on Joshua.
- Rumors are that ESPN may go all in on UFC when their Fox deal is up.
- The word is Wlad vs. Fury on July 9th.
- Craziest thing he has heard about making weight? For the Corrales-Castillo rematch (maybe the 3rd which was cancelled due to Castillo being overweight), his camp was considering drawing out a couple pints of blood to make weight and then putting it back in afterwords.
- Ortiz vs. Parker? Right now, Ortiz.
- Cotto vs. Rios or Kirkland are horrible fights.
- TR says if they do the Duran vs. Chavez exhibition, George Foreman will be the referee.
- Likely no chance of Canelo vs. GGG this year, medium chance Ward-Kovalev comes off this year, and likely no chance a Mayweather vs. Pacquiao rematch happens.
- Does not think Canelo has peaked as a fighter.
- Provodnikov vs. Molina on Showtime June 11.
- Most let down he has been after a fight? Mayweather-Pacquiao.
- One of his worst experiences at a fight was having to go the bathroom before Barrera-Hamed started. He decided to hold it and there was a delay, then the long ring entrances, and a 12 round fight.
- Lopez vs. Calderon? Lopez would have stopped him.
- Really likes Robert Easter and his performance last weekend was impressive. Reminded him of Chico Corrales.
