Dan Rafael chat wrap 3/25:

- If Broner loses to Theophane the public may not care about him anymore. They might not care about him right now.
- Broner still doesn't get it. Maybe being locked up again might sink in. Not surprised that Broner is involved in this alleged assault. You can see it coming from 10 miles away. Doesn't take any special pleasure writing about his misfortunes.
- Broner should turn himself in, get a hearing date, and bail out. He shouldn't put it off because the police can take you into custody at any time, including at a presser or weigh-in.
- Hopes Walters takes Lomachenko up on his offer to make the fight.
- Thomas Hauser's article is well written, but mainly a rehashing of stuff already reported. There hasn't been anything in it that he didn't already know, except for some exact figures on numbers.
- Does Broner ever respond intelligently to him? Rarely. He also didn't post their entire conversation last night.
- Pacquiao vs. Bradley is not going to do well on PPV. Probably a little more than 350k buys.
- Gilberto Mendoza with the WBA has said they are still deciding what to do regarding Browne-Chagaev. The B sample still needs to be tested. They may leave the regular title vacant and move forward with just two belts in the tournament. Does not believe Browne's story about his positive test.
- Chad Dawson is still planning to fight again. He was going to fight on the Thurman-Porter undercard before it got postponed.
- Rocky Juarez has not announced his retirement.
- Buy or Sell GGG vs. Canelo happens in 2017? Buy.
- Believes that Brook, Porter, and Thurman will eventually move to 154.
- Bradley's career has been very good. He has fought lots of quality opponents and made a lot of money.
- Crawford vs. Broner? Crawford fairly easily.
- Barrera is a good fighter, but Ward is on another level and should win fairly easily. Decision 12.
- If Barrera wins believes his next fight will be against Kovalev.
- Floyd vs. GGG will not happen.
- Crawford vs. Postol is an excellent fight and a horrible PPV.
- Ivan Najera came in 8 lbs overweight in his "comeback" fight in his hometown. What a waste.
- The Fight Game did a piece on what happens to Kovalev if Ward loses. Kovalev will be fine. Main Events promotes Barrera and Barrera is a Kovalev mandatory.
- Cotto vs. Jessie Vargas in June? No.
- Kell Brook beats Bizier in 7 or 8 rounds. No US TV for the fight. Showtime didn't push to get it on Showtime International.
- Yvon Michel is still saying Stevenson's next opponent will be Fonfara or Alvarez.
- Velez needs a win badly, but Diaz is too fast and skilled and should win.
- Better resume: Danny Garcia or GGG? Garcia, hands down.
- Likes it when a boxer finds a song they like to walk out to and uses it each time (WWE style).
- A fight where neither guy was the same after? Corrales-Castillo 1. Fan wrote in: Liakhovich vs. Brewster.
- Kovalev's next opponent? Up in the air. Main Events wanted Monaghan, but that didn't work out.
- Don King isn't holding up Andrade-Hatley, but he is negotiating hard, which is causing it to not be signed quickly. If it does get signed it will be on the undercard of Showtime's card with Provodnikov-Molina.
- The Canelo vs. Khan card is good top to bottom.
- Luis Ortiz will not be on the card. Ustinov is his mandatory and is due by June.
- Lemieux vs. Canelo is not in the works, but the reason Lemieux is on Canelo's card is for GB to build him as a possible future opponent.
- Canelo could very likely fight in September at Cowboy Stadium.
- Canelo has made it clear he is comfortable at 155. Whether he goes to 154 or 160 is up for him to decide. Canelo doesn't really need or care if he has a belt.
- Fury vs. Klitschko 2 is likely going to be on June 4. The fight should be finalized soon.
- April 9th is a great test to show how good Gilberto Ramirez can be.
- Interviewed Kostya Tszyu a couple of times. Always was nice and thoughtful with his answers. Was a very serious guy. Challenged you if he thought your question was bad.
- Jesse Hart needs more work before he is ready for a top opponent.
- Lamont Peterson has been inactive because Haymon has not scheduled a fight for him. Wouldn't be surprised to see Lamont back in June on an ESPN PBC card.
- Felix Verdejo's fight in Puerto Rico is on UniMas and has no budget, so the lackluster opponent is to be expected. He likely returns on HBO this June vs. Jose Felix.
- By all accounts Trout vs. Charlo will happen. Rumor is it may take place in Houston, with the other Charlo brother fighting John Jackson.
- MMA being legalized in NY certainly will cause more competition for dates and venues.
- Has he ever worried about a fighter physically attacking him? No.
- Chocolatito will not fight Inoue this year per Mr. Honda. Possibly next year. Most likely is a summer fight vs. Estrada or Nietes. Estrada vs. Nietes this summer is also a possibility.
- GGG beats Wade very easily. The fight will sell out or come very close. They just opened up more seats.
- Most desired opponent for GGG? Canelo.
- Marcus Browne is a really good prospect and has a chance at being a top 175 lb'er for years.
- Jacobs vs. Lee is being discussed for May 21. Unclear if the fight will get done.
- The atmosphere of Mayweather vs. Pacquiao was not as good as you would have thought because the crowd was so corporate.
- Best atmospheres for weigh-in's and fights? Mayweather-Canelo and Mayweather-Hatton weigh-ins were sick and best fight atmospheres he has experienced: Mayweather-Hatton, Trinidad-Joppy, Trinidad-Mayorga, Oscar-Vargas, Froch-Bute, and Lewis-Tyson. Other good ones were: JCC-Martinez, Pavlik-Taylor 1, and Gatti-Ward 2 & 3.
- How interesting is a Crawford vs. Spence fight? Very interesting.
- FNF is not coming back anytime soon. As long as the contract with PBC is in effect ESPN cannot show non-PBC fights.
- Naseem Hamed vs. Erik Morales? Naz by KO. Morales couldn't box the way Barrera did and not as disciplined. Naz was faster and would have found angles to land punches.
- Glowacki vs. Cunningham winner likely will face Usyk later this year. Both good fights.
- Not that interested in Bradley vs. Vargas 2, but understands why Vargas wants the fight. Bradley dominated him for 11 rounds and after he hurt Bradley there wasn't enough time to finish him and Bradley appeared okay.
- Reader wrote in that Cincinatti fighters need to stay out of trouble, so much talent and wasted promise (Pryor, Austin, Williams Jr., and Broner). Dan agreed.
- Sergio Martinez's best win is his KO of Paul Williams.
- The first quarter of 2016 has stunk for boxing, but first quarters usually are not that good.
- Have to choose one fight to get made: Crawford-Postol or Lomachenko-Walters? Crawford-Postol.
- Biggest non-title upset he can remember? Turpin over SRR. Pacquiao over ODH was pretty big.
- Brant is a good prospect. He is scheduled to fight Delray Raines April 15, in Hinckley, Minn.
- Regis Prograis is the guy to keep your eye on the most from Showtime's ShoBox fights tonight.
- Does he believe Holyfield ever used PED's? Probably.
- Wladamir Klitschko turns 40 today. HW's who won belts after turning 40? Vitali and Foreman.
- Kathy Duva is an excellent promoter, tons of experience, and easy to deal with.

Great question:ohhh:

Interesting question because I always have felt that Ward got paid more comparatively vs. other fighters HBO pushes and they get equal or better ratings and definitely better ticket sales. Always wondered if they were paying for the "prestige" of having Ward on your network. There is something to be said to have a top PFP guy to market yourself as the premier boxing network, which HBO does.

Even with that opinion, Ward is more popular than Lomachenko and Walters, but $1.4 million difference is surprising when Loma-Walters will do decent numbers and helps build HBO's brand of having a top fighter.
