Canelo's Trainer: No Time To Train Lucas Matthysse
By Miguel Rivera

Eddy Reynoso, trainer and manager of WBC middleweight champion Saul"Canelo" Alvarez, has unfortunately turned down the opportunity to train junior welterweight contender Lucas Matthysse (37-4, 34KOs) of Argentina. Matthysse was hoping to make some serious changes in his training approach, by traveling to the United States to trainer with Canelo's training team of Eddy and Chepo Reynoso.

There won't be any time to help him, because Reynoso says the entire team is completely focused on preparing Canelo for his upcoming return on May 7th and there won't be enough time to train a second fighter. Reynoso feels Matthysse deserves the proper attention in training camp, especially since he's coming off his first knockout defeat last October at the hands of unbeaten Ukrainian fighter Viktor Postol.

It was Matthysse's second attempt at a world title at 140 and he's now seriously considering the possibility of moving up to the welterweight limit of 147-pounds. "I've heard [about Matthysse's interest] in the media. I have not had talks with him or his team. For us, it is an honor that he's considering us, because that's proof that we are doing good work, but so far there has not been a formal approach," Reynoso said ESPN Deportes.

"As a coach you should always be professional and be open to all fighters, but the truth is - right now we are working full-time Saul. Being with Saul, we work in camp for three to four months and all the attention is for him. We know the quality of Matthysse, he is one of the best, but we believe that [we can't help him right now] because he needs someone who can give him hundred percent [of their attention], but we are not closing the door [on working with him in the future]. We will see what happens in the future."

Yup and hbo approved Lara so they can't use that Haymon argument.

He will fight the #38 ranked middleweight or whatever and Shookboys will front like he a good fighter like they do every fight :russell:

Haymon would make that fight too :laff:

Provodnikov vs Rios would be entertaining for however long it lasts though.

so would prov vs granados....i actually would fukk with that fight more...granados is a true wildcard and not a cat that lost his prime on the scales...rios needs to just fight ortiz and call it a day

I will be really pissed off if Brandon retires without giving the world that Ortiz fight.
