Did the IBF ever give an explanation for why they were trying to Force Fury to fight his mandatory so soon?
I haven't followed it at all, just what Dan posted in his mailbag. According to that, he said that the IBF gave Fury a deadline to let them know his intentions and he could have applied to keep the belt and negotiate a fight with Klitschko in the meantime. Fury chose not to respond and the IBF followed up on its own rules, which is if you don't communicate with them they will strip you.
Actually don't have a problem with Algieri turning it down. Algieri is coming back from a 2 hard mainstream losses. At the time I said he should work with his trainer and build himself back up. It would be the best for his career and him financially.
I think Spence beats him, probably KO's him. At this point in Algieri's career I don't think another loss is something he can really afford, until he puts himself on a small winning streak.
That said...Spence needs a good fight. Chavez would be interesting. Chavez hasn't won in the US, but we know he is a tough and decent fighter. Spence has the opportunity to have a more impressive victory over Chavez than Thurman, Rios (DQ), and Bradley could.
my damn computer always auto-corrects golovkin to golovking. I'm going to leave it.
@Jae, I like it. Golovking. How did we not think of that?
