Dan Rafael chat wrap 1/8:
- Chocolatito vs. Estrada is being aimed for summer.
- Favorite Barrera-Morales fight? 1 and 3 are classics. 3 is his favorite.
- It is worth GGG fighting only twice this year if one of the fights is against Canelo.
- GGG's next fight also could possibly be at The Forum, one of several venues being looked at.
- UFC has first dibs on MSG and GGG second (rumored coinciding date). However, UFC is illegal in NY, so the UFC would have to get NY to pass legislation first.
- Does not think GGG and Saunders are close to a deal and doubts that BJS/Warren will make a deal. Wants to be wrong. Likely he will fight non-top tier opponents and take advantage of UK money. Sanders likely would price himself out of a GGG fight.
- Does not believe GGG's team offered BJS $2+ million to fight. The math doesn't add up.
- The reason he dislikes Rigo: he finds him boring to watch, he often fights overmatched opponents and he puts zero effort into trying to end fights vs. overmatched opponents.
- In styles comparison, felt that Ivan Calderon was more entertaining than Rigo and Calderon had no chance to KO opponents, Rigo does. And Calderon faced better opposition.
- No idea why Thurman-Porter is taking so long to get made. One thing is clear, it won't be March 5th because of the UFC event.
- Ward is very close to a deal to fight Barrera March 26 on HBO.
- The PBC vs. GBP lawsuit will be interesting. Haymon will do everything he can to avoid being deposed or having himself or his companies opened for discovery.
- PBC doesn't have cards scheduled on nearly as many networks yet for 2016, what is up? Rumors are rampant that there are financial issues. But no one outside really knows what is up until we see what PBC does.
- If PBC ran out of money what happens to the fighters? Haymon would still be their advisor, so he would still be responsible for getting them fights through other channels.
- Who wins in a fight, Don King or Donald Trump? King.
- According to GB a Vargas vs. Muira rematch is very likely.
- No news on Lamont Peterson.
- Tarver in the HOF? Not a chance.
- Sergio Martinez HOF? Yes.
- Current fighters who will be HOF'ers? Hopkins, RJJ, Mosley, Pacquiao, Cotto, Mayweather, and Wlad. Chocolatito and GGG are probably nearly there. (I am assuming he forgot people: Ward for sure...and he has said he thinks Bradley likely could be as well)
- Arum is not protecting Crawford. Potential opponents have turned Crawford down.
- No Quigg vs. Frampton US TV yet, but it will be picked up eventually.
- The HW division is in the best condition it has been in for a long time. Lots of interesting matchups.
- Canelo likes Star Wars (Dan is a Star Wars superfan).
- Expects Wlad will be the betting favorite for the Fury rematch.
- If Canelo vs. Paul Williams had taken place, he would have picked Canelo. Williams was on the downside of his career.
- Technically Jacobs should be GGG's mandatory, but the WBA has not ordered the fight. They should order it.
- Cotto will probably be back early Summer.
- Rank Cotto's signing with Roc Nation? A. The man is getting paid.
- Leaning towards Glazkov to beat Martin because of experience. Should be entertaining and either guy could win.
- Spence vs. a Charlo brother in 2016? Probably no chance.
- Ibeabuchi will not be on the Pacquiao undercard. Arum wanted him on it if he could get licensed. He won't be able to get licensed in time and likely will be deported.
- If TR wins the purse bid for Abraham-Ramirez on Tuesday, Arum says he will put the fight on the undercard of Pacquiao-Bradley. Jose Ramirez will also be on the undercard, but Arum is not sure if he will be on TV or an off TV fight.
- Diego De La Hoya is a very good prospect.
- Walters likely to face Uchiyama for the 130 lb title.
- The new arena in Vegas probably will only be used for the biggest boxing fights.
- Spzilka is not a horrible defense for Wilder. It is an interesting fight.
- Has traded emails with Wlad since losing to Fury, but Wlad does not want to talk about the fight yet.
- Nothing serious being discussed for Lomachenko right now.
- HBO owes Lemieux a fight. Names being discussed are Monroe and Stevens.
- Who would he like to see a biographical boxing movie about? Hopkins. Corrales would be interesting.
- GRJ vs. Mares? No plans for that fight. The fight that makes sense to be made is LSC-GRJ.
- LSC vs. Kiko Martinez would be a disappointment. It is a pointless fight.
- LSC vs. Lomachenko? PBC and TR are a no go except for Mayweather-Pacquiao. But if it was made...Lomachenko would school LSC.
- Usyk is an elite prospect, rising contender.
