Amir Khan and Kell Brook set for 2016 world title showdown at Wembley, says Eddie Hearn
Eddie Hearn says Kell Brook and
Amir Khan are on the verge of agreeing a blockbuster world welterweight title showdown.
IBF welterweight champion Brook has long courted a bout with two-time former world champion Khan, who has snubbed his British rival on several occasions in an effort to lure pound-for-pound superstars Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao into the ring.
But with Mayweather now retired and Pacquiao reportedly set to turn down Khan's overtures, the Bolton fighter is now apparently keen to take on Brook.
Hearn, the Sheffield fighter's promoter, said he has already booked Wembley for June 4 to host the eagerly-anticipated bout.
He told Sky Sports: 'It's the next natural huge domestic fight that the public has been wanting and it is now coming closer to fruition than at any time.
"Amir has now told me that he definitely wants to fight Kell in the summer.
All that remains is to settle the terms."
Brook may make a mandatory defence of his world title against little-known Canadian Kevin Bizier in the meantime.
The 29-year-old (35-0, with 24 knockout wins) has not fought since stopping Frankie Gavin in May and pulled out of an October date with Diego Chaves due to a rib injury.
Hearn added: "
The IBF have ordered us to fight Bizier. We had an agreement to fight Chaves but if the fight's not for the IBF world title then the agreement is void.
"If we have to deal with the mandatory then it's likely we'll travel to America to do it because it's more appealing there than here.
"He's a decent fighter but it's not the easiest to sell and we need to prepare for the Khan fight, which is what we're heading towards.
It's all feet to the pedal on that."
