Dan Rafael chat wrap 11/13:
- Floyd vs. Broner? Floyd wins easily.
- JCC could become a champ again if he cherry picks a soft titleholder.
- Promoter issues aside, he would love to see Bradley-Thurman and Bradley-Khan.
- Wilder will fight in January, no opponent is 100% yet. Could be Glazkov (he would have to give up his mandatory shot vs. Klitschko), also heard Szpilka's name.
- The winner of Rodriguez vs. Seals seems like a logical next opponent for Stevenson.
- He rates Canelo as the best fighter at 154 because Canelo has fought within the 1 pound limit of non-title fights.
- If GGG-Canelo happens he thinks the most likely scenario is for the fight to happen at 160. Since it is a mandatory there is no obligation for GGG to give in to any weight demands. He could see GGG give in for a pound or two lower if it was needed to secure the fight.
- The "Rocky" 30 for 30 mockumentary that he took part in is finally out.
- ODH's letter came off as very bitter. He had some very good points, but it was a bit over the top. Disagrees that boxing is better without Floyd.
- ODH probably dared to be great the most of any fighter he ever has covered.
- Rigo is working to close the deal with Roc Nation. If it gets done in time he will be on the undercard of Canelo-Cotto.
- Very good chance we get Loma vs. Rigo in 2016. Arum wants it to take place at MSG.
- Brand likely will not be Ward's next opponent when he returns from injury. Brand is getting a placement on Roc Nation's Dec. 5 HBO Latino card.
- HBO likely had a hand in pushing Ward toward's the LH weight class. There weren't fights at 168 for opponents that they wanted to invest in. They were willing to pay Ward and put him on TV if he moved to 175.
- Is quite certain that Ward's contract spells out a specific timeline he must face Kovalev.
- Still says that anyone who says GGG-Lemieux did 90k PPV buys is a moron and a liar. It did just over 150k.
- Certainly could see Lee-GGG next if Cotto-Canelo winner goes a different direction. It likely would be a career high payday for Lee.
- If Canelo was too young to fight Floyd, why did he take the fight? $10 million minimum purse.
- Decent chance Canelo would face Bradley if he beat Cotto.
- If RJJ fought Tyson after beating Ruiz, who wins? RJJ.
- RJJ vs. Holyfield was very close to happening.
- At 168 RJJ beats any fighter in history to have ever fought there (including Ward).
- TruTv's Dec. 11 card with Verdejo and Donaire is an excellent card.
- Jim Gray is a nice guy and he likes him a lot.
- 30 for 30: Chasing Tyson, was excellent and all boxing fans should watch it.
- No eta on Glowacki's return. He is dealing with some hand and arm injuries from the Huck fight.
- Looking forward to watching Miura vs. Vargas.
- Pritchard Colon is still in a coma, but is breathing on his own. His family just got doctor permission to move him to the Shepard Center in Atlanta, which is one of the best for traumatic brain injuries.
- Chocolatito vs. Ivan Calderon? Chocolatito by KO.
- Trinidad vs. Julian Jackson? Tito by KO.
- No one he has heard from is giving Fury a chance vs. Klitschko. That said, it still would be as big of an upset as Rahman vs. Lewis.
- Best brothers in boxing history? Klitschko's.
- Interested to see how Antoine Douglas progresses. He is a good prospect.
- Ward's lawsuit vs. Goosen still makes no sense to him. As far as he knows Ward has never stated what his problem(s) with Goosen were. Goosen did a great job with Ward's career.
- In 1992 when Moorer won the WBO title, nobody considered it legit, just like nobody considered it legit when Bowe won it. That is why those are not counted when referenced as a 2x, 3x, etc...champion.
- Hopkins continually tells him he wants one more fight and for it to be significant.
- No word on what is next for LSC or Mares.
- Cotto is a 1st ballot HOF'er.
- Cotto's best performance? Mosley and Sergio.
- Favorite fights to cover this year: Canelo-Kirkland, GGG-Monroe, and Matthysse-Provodnikov.
- Rousey on the cover or Ring was stupid and desperate ploy to sell copies for a magazine that is nearly dead in print form.
- Hopes for Rios' health he stays retired, but wouldn't be surprised if he came back.
- After the Rios fight he along with some other reporters walked to the parking lot with him and they told Rios that they appreciated his career because he always gave a good effort and made himself available for interviews. Rios thanked them for covering his career. He likes Brandon and appreciated what he gave of himself to boxing.
- Best brothers in boxing history? Klitschko's.
- Steven A. Smith is actually a boxing fan and he talks to him about boxing every so often.
- Pryor vs. Mancini? A great names, although Pryor probably wins pretty easily.
- Thinks Mayweather vs. Pacquiao hurt PPV in general as people were disgruntled in spending $100 and felt disappointed. Thinks it hurts next weeks PPV numbers.
- Most accomplished Cuban professional? Casamayor (modern era).
- Casamayor's most exciting fight? Katsidis or Corrales 1.
- Zab Judah for the HOF? No chance.
- Regis Prograis is a very interesting prospect.
- ODH and Tito tried several times to make a rematch, but King was out of his mind with his money demands.
- Don King turned down having Stiverne on the GGG-Lemieux PPV because he wanted Stiverne to be on regular HBO where there would have been more viewers...and it turns out Stiverne's next fight won't be televised at all.
- Stiverne if healthy should easily win.
