This Saturday night from the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, WBO featherweight titlist Vasyl Lomachenko defends his crown against Romula Koasicha - who like Gamalier Diaz back in May - is a heavy underdog versus the two-time Olympic gold-medalist from Ukraine.
Is there a more significant fight in 2016 for this southpaw stylist?
And is there any chance it could be the now belt-less Guillermo Rigondeaux?
"Well, Lomachenko wants to fight Rigo because he think he's a good fighter and he wants to prove how good he is," said Egis Klimas, who manages Lomachenko.
"So if Top Rank can be able to deliver it, we would like the fight. But at this time let me tell you - we're not going to chase any fighter. Whoever is going to come into our space, we're going to fight. We have no time to chase fighters."
Lomachenko has made it clear that at 126 they he yearns for unification bouts. But if those fights aren't possible due to the politics of the sport, will he perhaps entertain a move up to super featherweight?
Klimas states - "We don't know, yet. We're concentrating on the fight this weekend and he's thinking he might want to go up to 130 if nobody is available at 126. For example if Rigondeaux wants to step in, we'll fight Rigondeaux. If not, we'll fight Orlando Salido at 130."
Salido, handed Lomachenko (4-1, 2 KO's) his lone professional loss in his second pro bout as he made an attempt to win the WBO featherweight belt when it was held by the rugged Mexican, who came into that bout over the 126 pound limit. Salido, though, seems on his way to a third match-up with Rocky Martinez in the early part of 2016.
