The Lying King Khan lying about signing contracts to face Moses Pacquiao, Moses Pacquiao lying about being in negotiations with Money Mayweather, Money Mayweather trying desperately to remain in the minds of the same fickle casuals who made him the #1 draw of all-time in Boxing history by posting things like this:

Boxing is the GOAT sport for fukkery:banderas::russ:

All that shyt gonna go out the window when cotto starts landing those left hooks to the body. I think this is where cinammons stamina issues finally get exposed.
word, when the fight was first announced, I was picking Nelo by decision or late stoppage, but as the fight gets closer I think I'm picking Cotto...

Ken Hershman: I am leaving HBO in a great place

i

Ken Hershman will leave his position as president of HBO Sports at the end of the year. Shareif Ziyadat/Getty Images

Ken Hershman surprised many in late 2011 when he left Showtime, where he ran the network's sports division, including its boxing franchise, and took a similar job as president of HBO Sports in the wake of the resignation of longtime department chief Ross Greenburg a few months earlier.

Hershman, 52, began his job at HBO, where he wielded the biggest budget to buy fights in the world, in January 2012. And on Friday he pulled another surprise, announcing his resignation effective at the end of the year.

"There's always a fight or fighters that slip through your fingers. But I don't view (losing) Floyd as a negative. It led to a lot of positive things for other athletes and fights, and we didn't lose tons of money, and we got the biggest fight of all time anyway."

Ken Hershman

His four-year tenure was marked by a number of important decisions and deals. Most will view his time leading the division as a good one, and that although it began a bit rocky it has been smooth sailing for more than a year and seen HBO's boxing viewership rise to its best levels in the past several years. During Hershman's time in charge:

• He was heavily involved in the decision to allow Floyd Mayweather to leave HBO for Showtime.

• But he was also heavily involved in bringing Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao to fruition in May in a joint deal with Showtime.

• He banned all Al Haymon-advised and managed fighters from the network due to massive philosophical differences in a controversial move.

• He repaired a fractured relationship with Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions, which included bringing the legendary Bernard Hopkins back to the network and signing Canelo Alvarez to a multiyear agreement.

• He helped get a deal done for the Nov. 21 mega fight between Alvarez and middleweight champion Miguel Cotto.

i

Signing Gennady Golovkin to fight on HBO was one of Ken Hersham most gratifying accomplishments at the company. Al Bello/Getty Images

• He signed middleweight titlist Gennady Golovkin and light heavyweight titlist Sergey Kovalev to deals and was instrumental in their rise as well as green-lighting flyweight champion Roman Gonzalez's appearances on HBO, which hadn't done a flyweight fight since 1995. Gonzalez became the consensus No.1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world in the wake of Mayweather's retirement in September.

• He failed in his attempt to get a unification fight between light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson and Kovalev done. Hershman secured an agreement from both sides but didn't get it signed, and he got burned when Stevenson left for Showtime.

• He continued to work closely with Top Rank, including helping establish Terence Crawford, the 2014 fighter of the year, as a major player.

• Televised the fight of the year in 2012 (Juan Manuel Marquez-Pacquiao) and 2013 (Timothy Bradley Jr.-Ruslan Provodnikov) and aired a leading 2015 candidate (Lucas Matthysse-Provodnikov).

• The day before his resignation, HBO announced the signing of pound-for-pound contender and super middleweight champion Andre Ward, who is moving up in weight, to a network contract that will culminate in 2016 with a showdown against Kovalev if they keep winning.

Shortly after HBO announced his resignation, Hershman spoke to ESPN.com:

The announcement took a lot of people by surprise and seemed quite sudden. Why did you resign?

It's something I've been thinking about for a while. It was sudden to the outside world but not to me. This wasn't something where I woke up and said, 'That's it, I'm resigning.' It was an evolution. It was a number of months for me. I had lots of conversations with my family and friends about things and I evolved to this. A few weeks ago, I had a chat internally here with my bosses, and once those words come out, you know it's real.

Things at HBO Sports seemed to be going well. Ratings are up, you've had a lot of good fights, found cornerstone fighters such as Golovkin, Kovalev and Crawford and brought Canelo back. You've been televising nine of the ESPN.com top 10 pound-for-pound fighters. It seems like an unusual time to walk away.

Partly that's why I feel good about the timing. Things weren't as smooth sailing when I got here. That was my mission though, and I feel like I'm leaving the place in a far better position than how I found it. I always felt if you could pick a time to leave, it would be to do it when they're strong and in the best position to continue the success. I'm blessed but it's the right time for me to pivot and do something else. I am leaving the company in a great place. A few weeks ago is when I had the chat with my bosses, and we figured out what the timing would be. I wanted to get through a couple of different things before we announced it.

What were the things you wanted to get done?

We had to get our Kareem (Abdul-Jabbar) documentary finished and get some boxing decisions made (such as the Ward contract and schedule the rest of the year). I feel the year is baked, and it's a good time to announce it.

Your predecessor was forced to resign and HBO treated him well in its sendoff. What is your contract status and were you also forced out?

My contract was expiring at the end of the year, but it had nothing to do with it. It's just a personal decision for me. If I'm going to sign a new deal, I have to be able to devote the same energy I have given to the position. This position deserves that, and I wasn't convinced I could do it. I don't know if burnt out is the right word, but it was more of a feeling that I have seen it and done it and accomplished everything and I want a new challenge. I didn't see that here for me. I see it in other directions outside of here.

What will you do next?

I'm not focused on talking about that right now. I'm trying to make the transition as smooth as possible. I'm going to enjoy boxing from a fan's perspective. I'm looking forward to that. I'm really looking forward to sitting ringside or in front of the TV as a fan and not worrying about the business implications of any fight. That will be liberating for me. We'll see where the business side of things takes me. I'm not going to be a promoter. Cutman maybe (laughing).

Peter Nelson, an HBO Sports vice president, is one of your closest advisers and the guy who brought fighters like Golovkin and Gonzalez to your attention. Many view him as your successor. Any idea who it will be?

I have no idea. You have to ask the people who are making that decision, which is not me. I don't think it matters much what I think. Peter is a smart guy and he knows his stuff, and a lot of arguments that can be made that he should take the role. But that's for the company to decide.

What was your greatest achievement in your four years at HBO?

I think from a business perspective, it was just creating a culture and strategy around our sports programming and eliminating a lot of distractions surrounding the program. When I got here, there was a lot of criticism of the (boxing) programming, a lot of leaks, dysfunction and not a coherent strategy. Those were the biggest challenges I had as an executive to overcome. I think we had a track record of success in terms of the fighters we have on the network regularly and the fights we put on and the viewership numbers.

What was the most satisfying deal?

I think I have to put Golovkin up there as one of the major achievements. We recognized his gifts and talents and his marketability and put a lot of energy and support behind him, and now we're watching him reap the fruits of that. Watching him sell out Madison Square Garden (for his Oct.17 unification fight with David Lemieux) was rewarding. Bringing Canelo Alvarez back has been rewarding. Working with Manny Pacquiao and navigating to the Mayweather fight, the biggest pay-per-view of all time, is clearly one of the highlights of my career. In terms of non-boxing, evolving 'Real Sport' and watching that viewership dramatically increase and seeing it continue to win Emmy Awards and DuPont Awards.

Biggest regret? Was it losing Mayweather to Showtime?

There's always a fight or fighters that slip through your fingers. But I don't view (losing) Floyd as a negative. It led to a lot of positive things for other athletes and fights, and we didn't lose tons of money, and we got the biggest fight of all time anyway. I think (not signing Mayweather) was ultimately a blessing. It gave room for Kovalev, Crawford, Golovkin and Canelo to emerge as the next generation to carry the sport for the next 10 years. We acted smartly. I don't know if there's a big regret.

Of all the fights you programmed, which was your favorite?

Bradley-Provodnikov, to me, had every element I love in a fight -- the brutalness of it, competiveness, back-and-forth action, jaw agape. It was reminiscent of (Diego) Corrales-(Jose Luis) Castillo I (a legendary fight he programmed at Showtime in 2005). I think Bradley-Provodnikov stands out to me as the one of the real highlights. Also, the atmosphere at Canelo-(James) Kirkland (in May) at the baseball stadium in Houston stands out. What a crowd and what a wild fight. That was really fun for me. There are so many it's hard to pick. Pacquiao-Marquez, the fourth one, also. I was on edge of my seat and it ended in a shocking way. I didn't even know what to think. That was a particularly riveting moment for me.

What was the most disappointing fight you put on?

(Brandon) Rios-(Mike) Alvarado III was probably the biggest dud. It was a fight that should have been anything but a dud, but Alvarado was not prepared.

Was your last big thing to get done the Ward deal, which was announced the night before your resignation was?

It was one of the items on the list to get done. It's an important deal that will lead to important fights. It was one of the priorities. We've put in place strategy and have a plan for a number of big fights for 2016. The rest of it will be up to the new administration
