Why are these dudes still shook of fighting rigo
They don't wanna be great these days
:yeshrug:

Donaire had all the hbo hype while he was knocking people out, similar to another fighter (:sas2:). Only difference is he took the high risk low reward challenge, and looking back you gotta respect him even more for doing that.

He went "look at the public reaction" as if that changes anything. I was gonna respond, "the public reacted stronger to Floyd Mayweather vs Robert Guerrero though....and you said that wasnt a good matchup", but he ran:mjlol:
:russ:
making Kim run and cry in the car like Red from friday.

Daily Bread Mailbag: Broner-Theophane, Postol, More

By Stephen "Breadman" Edwards

I have a few Adrien Broner questions. What did you think of his Bruce Jenner comments? How do you feel about him saying that he fought whoever they put in front of him and he’s not doing that anymore, suggesting he’s been matched too tough? What did you think of his performance? And how is his fight with Ashely Theopane going to play out?

Bread’s Response: I’m not touching the Bruce Jenner comment so no need to ask me again.

Broner has not been fed. I can’t recall him being the underdog except in the Shawn Porter fight. He has fought decent competition but not murderer’s row. But a 4 division champion with over 30 fights should be fighting elite level competition. A champion should be available to contenders and adaptable to all styles…..

I thought Broner looked really good. But he usually handles that level of fighter.

Ashely Theopane actually had a really good performance vs Danny Garcia years back when Garcia was coming up through the ranks. Theopane is no bum. But he’s an older guy now and he has not proven to be an A level fighter. I think Broner will too much for him. But Theopane is a slick talking, cocky dude from the UK so the build up will be cool.

How did you score the Pedraza vs Cherry fight? I know you are high on Pedraza but I think that was a robbery that no one will care about. I see Pedraza is with Haymon so I expected him to get the fight but that was bad.

Bread’s Response: I didn’t score the fight but I think the scorecards were too wide. I was turning back and forth to the HBO fights….

I thought the fight was razor close that could have gone either way. I think Cherry will get another big fight because of his valiant effort.

You always say that pressure fighters fall off in their early 30s. Man that theory proves correct. Lucas Matthysse is just not a machine anymore. What a fall off.

Bread’s Response: I picked Lucas because I simply didn’t know enough about Postol but pressure fighters don’t have longevity. There has never been one who was dominant in their mid 30s. Most fall off in their late 20s or early 30s.

The reason being is they need the mindset of an animal not a human and that mindset is not easy to maintain. They also have to put out more energy to be effective. As you get older maximum energy output dissipates. I like Matthysse but I think his best days are behind him. The reason why he looked good vs Provodnikov was because he was the better boxer and was able to fight a different type of fight. If he has to hunt an elite guy down from here on out he will struggle. The reason why Roberto Duran and Manny Pacquiao had late career success was because they became boxer punchers late in their careers.

Who are the best prospects or young fighters in boxing? I saw Robert Easter on sho extreme and he seems to be the goods.

Bread’s Response: Sometimes I think a prospect gets confused with a young contender. For example Artur Beiterbiev is no longer a prospect, he’s a contender. Antoine Douglas is now a contender he’s not a prospect anymore. Errol Spence and Amir Imam are all contenders now….

Excluding the marketing aspect and who is being showcased the most the 5 best prospects in boxing as far as the eyeball test in no particular order.

Robert Easter is definitely on the list and I have been saying it for a while now. I think he’s as good as Felix Verdejo and more advanced than Oscar Valdez.

My top prospects would be Felix Verdejo, Robert Easter, Prichard Colon, Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker

I know Danny Garcia is your boy. But he seemed to have ducked Victor Postol. Postol was his number 1 contender and Danny just forgot to defend the title. After seeing Postol I can see why. What’s your take?

Bread’s Response: Listen you have a valid point and I can be objective. I don’t know if it was a complete duck because Danny stopped defending his belt in 2014 before Postol became the mandatory. All of his fights were over 140 since the Mauricio Herrera defense. So that tells me the move to 147 was inevitable. I think it had more to do with not being able to make 140 than actually avoiding Postol. But Postol was his mandatory recently…. As I stated before I personally feel a champion should be available to all contenders and adaptable to all styles.

Postol is a serious threat to anybody. He’s tall, he can box, he’s physically tough and he has great resources out the Wild Card Gym with Freddie Roach. Danny would have had his hands full with Postol. Maybe they can meet at 147 and settle it.

What's up breadman!! Congratulations on j rocks win, way to make a statement.

If you were training cotto for his fight against Canelo, what would you try to exploit? Because I look at Canelo and I see a very explosive, accurate, flashy puncher, who has good head movement and parries punches good, his down side seems to be that he is slow footed and gets tired late.

The kid has a country behind him so it seems any close decision is going his way! Trout and Lara being examples!! Which I thought could have gone either way.

Mayweather did an outstanding job of changing his looks against Canelo and pot shotting Canelo till he broke him down!!! Canelo straight up, lead footed stance really hurt him in that fight, while it seem that cotto with the rhythm he had in the mayweather fight was a big key in getting mayweather to open up more making him more susceptible to getting hit.

I listen to Virgil hunter statement about Canelo being an over rated puncher, because Angelo had to loose 25 pounds in six weeks, he was a dead man walking going into that fight, then I hear trout state that cotto hit him with one left hook that made him say to himself I don't want get hit with this again, but then despite Canelo dropping him he dealt with canelo right hand pretty good.

What do you see?

Bread’s Response: I think Floyd took Canelo’s success away early and made him reach. Floyd would step to Canelo slightly then pull out of range and counter him. Canelo did better on video than I thought he did live but nevertheless Floyd broke his rhythm early.

Canelo is a rhythm fighter. It’s a violent concussive rhythm. Boom, boom, boom. A slight pause, then boom, bomb, boom. The thing about Canelo is, he’s a boxer who just happens to be sort of short for the weight and a good puncher. But he’s a boxer by style not appearance. He’s just violent. The problem is he boxes with hands and not his feet. From the waist up he’s murder. You have to make him use his feet. He doesn’t like hitting moving targets. What makes the kid Roman Gonzales so special at cutting the ring off is he punches on the move. Canelo wants you to stand still or come to him.

Cotto’s feet aren’t as fast as Mayweather’s but they are almost as skillful. Cotto has a swaying type of footwork and one of the best jabs in history from a short fighter. Pernell Whitaker, Dwight Qawi, Emille Griffith, Jake Lamotta and Mike Tyson are the only other fighters in history who can compare to Cotto’s jab status as a short fighter.

I think Cotto has to break Canelo’s offensive rhythm with his jab and not allow Canelo to get to his body early. It’s very important he protects his body early because down the stretch he’s going to need his legs. I think Cotto has to use the whole ring and force Canelo to hit a moving target. But he can’t make it appear he’s running like Lara did. He has to look like he’s boxing. He has to feint, and throw efficient punches.

I expect a highly skillful display when these two meet. We are going to be in for a treat. Violent boxing at it’s best. But my pick right now is Canelo. But this is truly a toss up.

Mythical Matchups. Floyd Mayweather vs Ike Quartey, Muhammad Ali vs Wladimir Klitschko, Evander Holyfield vs Deontay Wilder, Sergey Kovalev vs Prince Charles Williams, James Toney vs Gerald McClellan.

Bread’s Response: Mayweather by MD over Quartey. Quartey’s jab would bother Floyd but Floyd’s eyes are too good for Ike. He would use the ring and make Ike reach. It would be a tough fight for Floyd but I think he’s too smart for Ike.

Ali beats Wlad. In a 15 round fight he retires him. Wlad doesn’t have the natural stamina to deal with Ali. Look at his fight with Ross Purity please. I have never seen a fighter so relieved to lose. He was glad the fight was over because he was tired. Ali all day and twice on Sunday.

Holyfield by 1st degree Murder. Wilder would make Holyfield hurt him because he would try to ko Evander. At some point the fight would go from an outside fight to a midrange fight where Holyfield is one of the better fighters in history. At that point it would be over.

Kovalev over the Prince in a brutal shootout. Prince had a great jab and was very clever. But I think Krusher is too dynamic offensively.

Man I just watched the sparring session between Toney and McClellan. I think Toney’s natural defense and his ability to relax under duress would be the difference. Both are violent killers but McClellan fought in a state of panic. James Toney never panics. In a war of attrition, which this would surely be, the more relaxed man with the better defense would prevail. But boy would he have to go through hell. McClellan’s left hook to the liver could be the best in the history of the sport.
