Theophane: Mayweather Feels I'll Beat Broner, So Do I!

Posted by: Rick Reeno on 10/4/2015 .

By Rick Reeno

To some, Adrien Broner made an unexpected challenge on Saturday night after capturing the WBA "regular" junior welterweight title with a stoppage win over over Khabib Allakhverdiev at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Broner (30-2, 22 KOs) dominated the contest and stopped Allakhverdiev (19-2, 9 KOs) in the twelfth and final round when referee Harvey Dock had seen enough and waved off the fight. The victory earned Broner his fourth divisional title.

During his live post-fight interview on Showtime, Broner called out tough Brit Ashley Theophane (39-6-1, 11KOs).

Theophane is promoted by Floyd Mayweather Jr., who is close friends with Broner.

Some were caught by surprise with Broner's verbal challenge to Theophane. But BoxingScene.com ran a story last month, where Theophane revealed that he sat down with Mayweather - who promised him a title fight as long as Broner beat Khabib.

"Put Ashley on one of your private jets, bring him to come see me - and I bet I bring the girl out of that boy like Bruce Jenner," Broner said after the fight.

Theophane is ready for the fight. Following Broner's call of war, Theophane spoke to his promoter, and adviser Dejuan Blake - and advised both to make that fight happen.

"Whenever Adrien is ready to make this fight we can make it happen. My promoter Floyd Mayweather and advisor Dejuan Blake believe I can beat him and so do I. He's a great fighter. His record shows that. 26 years old and a four weight world champion but I believe in my ability and I 100% believe I would be victorious. I want to be your first defense Adrien. You called me out live after your win. Let's do this," Theophane stated to BoxingScene.com.

I also wanna say, if AB fought Postol on Saturday night and beat him...people would be calling Postol a bum. It's funny how the opinion on a fighter changes from fight to fight in the Boxing community, based upon who is fighting them:wow:
I've actually been consistent on what I think of postol so I'm good on that aspect lol

Oh yeah...I know you've always said Postol was a good Boxer (you always putting us on to the lesser known fighters to bring our attention to them) and I've thought similar after analyzing. Im saying in general, not just thecoli but in the Boxing community as a whole, that if AB would've fought and beaten him, he would've been called a bum and a "nobody":wow:

Postol is gonna be a tough out for anyone. He's pretty tall for a Junior Welterweight (damn near 6'0), with a 74 inch reach, good boxing ability, and the Klitschko Bros "jab & grab" staple in his arsenal:ehh:

Him vs Crawford or Imam will be good fights:obama:

That's just the nature of the game breh.

Kahib is a solid B- minus type of dude who gave Vargas (another B- dude) all he could handle and this was after I saw him slap Guzman around the ring after DMX walked him out. :mjcry:

Broner is a B+ dude with A level talent and once again nikkas got to see the difference talent makes when it applies itself.

Postol is a B+ dude in my book as well (even though he doesn't impress me much), but he doesn't have that obvious talent spark that About Business has. Hell, to be honest I think #AlgieriAssasins is more talented than Postol too and would have prolly done the same thing to Lucas just minus the KO quit job. His hands are quicker, his movement more fluid, and he's way more accurate with the hands.

Like I've said before, all these nikkas are on or near the same level. The talent gap and work ethic is what's separating them at the end of the day.

Yep. You made this point last year, and it was an excellent one. I've integrated into my Boxing talk on a regular basis:heh::ohlawd::salute:

Speaking of Chris Algieri...what's up with him? I haven't heard anything about him since he fought Khan:patrice:

Chris Algieri vs Viktor Postol would be a great matchup too.

Me creating that point, pretty much eliminates the need for triangle theories, because you're looking at fighters on a levels basis/ grading scale. Unfortunately, some will disagree with this stance, but it works effectively if you have an open mind to it.

When cats are matched up pretty evenly....1 or 2 things will come into play....Talent will take over or work ethic will and sometimes a boxer will display both. Broner vs Porter is a perfect example of this.

The less talented guy won off of work ethic. When the more talented guy decided to work hard, he put Shawn on his ass with that epic hook.

As for Algieri, I'd like to see him in the ring again. I don't know what he's up to. I think he beats Postol and would prolly use the same gameplan he did to kick Khan's ass. I rather see Postol fight Crawford though.

I'd like to see #AlgieriAssassins fight a mid level tune up guy 1st before I see him take on another top 10 guy. You know build that confidence up.

You know @Newzz had to come back to talk that talk about Broner being 4 time 4 time 4 time 4 time titles in different weight classes. And we got Sugar Shane Mosley :wow:

And a small correction as well:youngsabo:

After further review, and forum hopping to NSB, AB is actually THEE youngest 4x Champion over 4 different divisions in Boxing history at only 26 years old:banderas:

They said Oscar De La Hoya was the youngest, but he actually didn't accomplish this feat until he was 28 and beat Castillejo for the WBC Junior Middleweight Championship (he won the IBF Lightweight in 95 at 22, WBC Junior Welterweight in 1996 at 23, WBC Welterweight in 1997 at 24, and WBC Junior Middleweight in 2001 at 28).:sas1:

The WBO Championship he held in 1994 (which would have made him a 4x Champion over 4 Divisions by the age of 24) wasnt a recognized belt until 2007, so it doesn't count:sas2:

AB made history out here:mjcry:
