Brad Solomon Faces Claggett on 10/16 TruTV Card

Posted by: Ryan Burton on 9/17/2015 .

By Ryan Burton

James Prince, manager of undefeated welterweight contender Brad Solomon (25-0), has advised BoxingScene.com that the Louisiana native will return to the ring on October 16th in Brooklyn, NY against Steve Claggett (22-3-1). The fight will serve as the chief support for the Seanie Monaghan-Donovan George main event. Both fights will be televised by truTV.

Solomon last fought on the Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao undercard when he outpointed Adrian Granados. Claggett has won 7 out of his last 8 fights with his only loss being a close decision loss to undefeated Russian prospect Konstantin Ponomarev.

Solomon's trainer Herman Harris said that they are grateful to be able to fight on the truTV platform and hope to use this fight as a springboard to even bigger fights.

"We appreciate truTV for having us on. We are looking to be impressive as we move on to bigger opportunities. That is if we can get any of the top guys at 147 to stop avoiding us!" Harris told BoxingScene.com.

The fight card takes place on the eve of the Gennady Golovkin-David Lemieux pay-per-view card that takes place at the Madison Square Garden in New York.

It's great to see King Solomon back in action, but he's managed by Prince TOO?:why:

He's aiight...gets way more hate then he should is my issue....I can't stand that wishy washy shyt boxing fans do when its a nikka they don't like...so I point it out

Kid Choc can't fight GGG cuz he don't have a belt :usure:

Muhfukkers :blessed: Lemeuix N crowned him a killer for beating Chocs leftovers but Choc aint shyt :martin:

Quick to point out a close fight he had but say nothing bout his "draw with Lee" :patrice:

"Boxing fans" wishing the Jacobs vs Choc fight gets ruined :comeon:

Lucky cut on Rosado :francis:

i had nothing to say about that fight with Lee..when Quillin didnt make the weight I didnt give a fukk about the fight anymore..win or lose Lee left the champ breh

i dont care about lemieux but he has a belt and GGG wants to unify and its happening :wow:...i would have supported GGG vs N'dam is n'dam won...oscar made his best decision in years..and if canelo beats cotto i can see him throwing canelo in with GGG..there's no fukking around at MW among the champions (unless cotto beats canelo)...i dont know how many times i have to repeat why i support unification in the division..Quillin doesn't fit the picture..the other champions are making efforts to fight each other to bring clarity

I give 2 shyts about Quillin..he's a lazy fighter who doesn't want to be great

lucky cut..one fukking jab ripped him open..i was :francis: at that shyt but thats boxing

When theres a clear #1 N #2 in the division belts Don't matter

Pac lost to Bradley N Floyd shytted on him having a L not having a belt N Floyd got flack for it...cuz errybody knew who the #1 N #2 in the division was N that mattered more then a belt

Cotton could've dropped the belt N still fought Canelo at 155.27 N nobody would give a shyt cuz the belt doesn't fukking matter

This is what he was saying in 2012 prior to linking up with Haymon and receiving the stimulus checks:

Fast forward to 2015, in a fight against Andy Lee which would have done wonders on crowning him the undeniable #3rd best fighter at 160 in the public's eye and....:

...Quillin spoke openly for the first time about what went wrong in his fight.

"I felt like my tooth was loose," Quillin said, leaning forward in a hushed tone.

"I've got a bridge and I felt like it was loose. That was always my worry with getting my teeth done that it would happen in a fight. This is the first I've ever spoken of it."

Quillin made his name early in his career as a cement-fisted closer, often flashing his broad smile, one tooth missing, while his opponent lay sprawled out before him.

Over the past few years, he's made moves to get the hole fixed with a bridge and other dental work.

"In the beginning of my career, I had a missing tooth and I kind of made it work for my character. Then I went to go get the work done but it wasn't work that I was happy with," he said.

After the seventh round, Quillin pulled trainer Eric Brown in close and whispered something that was inaudible to the television camera. Brown responded, telling Quillin not to worry about it.

"I whispered to him, I said, 'Don't take my mouthpiece out,'" Quillin disclosed. "I was worried my teeth would fall out."

That self-confessed insecurity influenced the final five rounds of the bout, making him wary of engaging in further exchanges with the powerful Lee.

...Quillin said he's now focused on taking care of the dental issues that held him back and said he had a root canal on May 1.

"I've been back and forth to the dentist and it's been torture for me," he said. "They're sticking needles in my mouth, I've almost got a phobia going to the dentist now. The dentist told me, 'Man, it sounds like you're being tortured.'

"You know what happened to me? I started crying because I have been ... it's been rough. I keep thinking to myself how I never want to use anything as an excuse why I would fail at something."

Quillin remains confident his dental issues won't keep him from his fight schedule and hopes to remain active throughout the remainder of the year.

"If it comes to it, I'm willing to get all these removed and fight with no teeth if I have to," he said. "I hope it doesn't come to that, but I'm willing to do what I have to do to be in that ring.

"It's my job."

I used to like this dude. But don't make excuses as to why you split with us when we probably shoulda won after outboxing you for the next 7 rounds. inclusing a knockdown.
