Las Vegas - An interesting welterweight showdown is being discussed for November 7th on Showtime.
Stephen Espinoza, the general manager and executive vice president of Showtime Sports, advised BoxingScene.com that he's attempting to finalize an entertaining scrap between former champions Amir Khan (31-3, 19KOs) and Ruslan Provodnikov (24-4, 17KOs).
If a deal is reached, the fight will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
According to Espinoza, Provodnikov has already accepted the fight, and the network is currently negotiating with Khan to finalize the terms on his end of the deal.
"We love the fight. We think it's really an attractive, fun fight and it's a good fight for both guys. We're hoping to put things together for November 7th, at Barclays. We're hoping Khan will accept the fight. Provodnikov is all-in and ready to do it," Espinoza told BoxingScene.com.
"We're going to discuss some things with Amir this weekend. That's the target date, largely because it's a perfect fight for Barclays Center and they have the date available."
There is no guarantee that Khan will accept. If the negotiations fall apart, Espinoza will go to Plan B.
"If not, we'll try to find fights for both of those guys somewhere else," Espinoza said.
Espinoza did make it clear that his network does not have a contractual hold on Provodnikov's next ring appearance.
"He's looking for a fight against a high level opponent and we're pretty deep in that weight class [140 to 147]. But he could certainly find a deal over at HBO or any other network," Espinoza said.
Khan was last in the ring back in June, when he picked up a twelve round decision win over Chris Algieri. Provodnikov was last seen on April 18th, when he lost a twelve round split decision to Lucas Matthysse in one of the better action fights of the year.
Is Khan gonna take the fight?
