Nonito Donaire to face Anthony Settoul on July 18 in Macau; Scott Quigg next?
Nonito Donaire has an opponent for his next fight.
“The Filipino Flash” will face Frenchman Anthony Settoul in a 10-round junior featherweight bout on July 18 in Macau, China, Donaire’s manager Cameron Dunkin told USA TODAY Sports on Friday. HBO 2 will televise.
Following July 18, Dunkin hopes to make a deal for Donaire to fight England’s Scott Quigg for the WBA 122-pound belt. Settoul (20-3, 8 KOs) is lightly regarded and shouldn’t give Donaire problems, paving the way for the big-money bout.
Donaire, the 2012 Fighter of the Year, has fought once since an October 2014 knockout defeat to Nicholas Walters. That bout was at featherweight, and Donaire (34-3, 22 KOs) is now campaigning in the more comfortable weight class of junior featherweight. He knocked out journeyman William Prado earlier this year.
Quigg, meanwhile, must get past Kiko Martinez on July 18 in Manchester
