Dan Rafael chat wrap 12/12:
- JCC is still in contract litigation. No news on his next fight.
- Klitstcko not having Banks train any more has nothing to do with Banks losing. Wlad likes him and was happy with the work they did together.
- He spoke with Cotto's attorney yesterday. They are working through the details and are trying to make a deal.
- Cotto has no objection to fighting in Texas. ODH and Canelo said they will fight where there is the most money.
- Where does he predict it takes place: MGM Grand.
- Spoke with Paul Williams recently and he is in good spirits. He spends a lot of time fishing.
- Mayweather vs. Trinidad at 147. Mayweather wins by no-hitter.
- If Khan wins he becomes the frontrunner for Mayweather. If Alexander wins he likely isn't Mayweather's next opponent. He could make a case depending on how he won.
- Wishes Victor Ortiz the best, but doesn't think he ever makes it back up to the top of the division. Doesn't have the chin or mental makeup.
- Vitali vs. Wlad: Vitali.
- Agrees that the heavyweight division is starting to build some momentum.
- Chaves is taller than he remembered and Bradley is shorter.
- The cards this weekend aren't generating a lot of buzz in Vegas. The show at The Cosmo is sold out per TR at about 3,000 and the MGM will probably sell 3,000-4,000 and give away 5,000-6,000.
- Wilder-Stiverne is supposed to happen Jan. 17th at the MGM. MGM says the arena is on hold and the camps have said both sides have agreed. He thinks it happening Jan. 17th is becoming unlikely. Very likely the date gets pushed back. 5 weeks out and no press release or announcement. When tickets go on sale it is a very difficult time to sell (between Christmas and New Years). A lot of the issues have to do with Wilder's contract. GB says Wilder is under contract to them, or he can be out of the contract due to the free man clause with Schaefer - which is what Haymon is alleging.
- His understanding is that Lemiuex is not contractually obligated to HBO. HBO may have first/last option on his next fight.
- Shafikov is in good position for another title shot if he wins.
- Doesn't know who Provodnikov fights next. He would love to see him fight Crawford.
- Picks: HBO - Bradley, Herrera, Korobov. SHO - Alexander, Thurman, Mares, Charlos brothers.
- The IBF accepted Kovalev's request for an exception. Kovalev-Pascal is on.
- He has been to a fight he thought was fixed.
- Benavidez-Herrera is a great matchup. A solid veteran vs. a young fighter who needs to prove what he is about.
- Likely fight on the card with Kovalev-Pascal - Glaskov-Cunningham.
- Beterbiev is basically ready for a title shot. Give him a couple more fights.
- Purses from last night's ESPN2 card: Antonio Tarver $50,000, Jonathan Banks $40k, Austin Trout $50k, Luis Grajeda $15k, Oscar Escandon $10k, Tyson Cave $10k, Terrell Gausha $10k, Cesar Vila, Edwin Rodriguez $20k, Derrick Findley $17k, Sergio Mora $20k, Dashon Johnson $7.5k.
- He has a copy of a Haymon contract.
- Leo Santa Cruz named his son Al.
- Showtime fired Tarver over his failed drug test.
- Does not think Floyd fights in May.
- Expect Bradley-Chaves to have the possibility to be a sleeper war of a fight.
- Cotto's team said Haymon reached out to him about a rematch with Mayweather, but it never went anywhere. He wants to fight Canelo.
- What's next for Stevenson? He will talk about the Pascal-Kovalev winner and not fight them.
- If he wins tomorrow, thinks Thurman gets a title shot of some kind next year.
- Wouldn't be surprised if Mayweather fought the Khan-Alexander winner and then Thurman after that.
- GGG will be at HBO's fight on Saturday. Lemiuex vs. the winner of Korobov-Lee is unlikely.
