What do you guys think of boxers who forgo amateur careers? How important is an amateur career for boxers? Is it a good look for a 21 year old to follow this path? Asking for a friend
I would say please DO NOT forgo the amateurs. Amateurs are too important for the development of a fighter, unless you are THAT gifted, but if you look at the greatest boxers then you can see how the amateurs helped them. I had dudes who swore up and down that they don't need amateurs and I asked them to fight me without gear for 5 rounds, what do you think happens? I wind up serving them and I ask, "if I can do that to you, just imagine what a younger much better boxer would do." It never fails. for some reason this happens a lot with heavyweight and bantamweight fighters.
You know, that has to be it. I can't figure this out. It's always the big and little dudes, and they be dead serious and the trainers in the gym are likenapoleon and big man complexes breh
Some big ninja a few posts up. Looks like I missed completely with the 'Russian' part, dude's a ninja
Was it him?

B-Hop didn't have an amateur career and started late as well. It can be done breh
Thats a myth. He was a very promosing amateur as a teen. A lot of experience too. Its just he stopped for the street game. He picked boxing back up in prison. He didnt learn how to box in prison.
He boxed as a kid though breh...that doesnt really count imo.
Okay then, 0 amateur fights? Wilfredo Vazquez Jr had 0 amateur fights, but is currently involved in a "win 1, lose 1" type of his career for his last 8 fights
You just said bernard had no amateur experience tho.
So I said he did.
Then you said he boxed as a kid so it doesnt count.
im so confused
To ME, Boxing as an amateur at 10 years old and then stopping for the streets, only to pick back up the sport when you are in prison doesnt constitute a legit amateur career.
Whatever you do as a pre-teen has no bearings on what Bernard Hopkins did in his career....but that's just me though
Technically, you ARE correct, he fought some foughts as a young amateur kid. The answer, @Grams, would then be Wilfredo Vazquez Jr., because he had 0 amateur fights.
He was boxing when he was a teen too. He had a legit career. Remeber reading he was a golden glove champ in pilly.
