An Argentinean judge has ordered that Marcos Maidana’s purse from the Floyd Mayweather fight be withheld pending a claim made by Maidana’s former trainer Guillermo Serra, who trained Maidana from mid-2004 until December 2006. According to Team Maidana, Serra is claiming to have been Maidana’s manager since 2008 extending through 2016. “It is an unbelievable situation,” said Sebastian Contursi, Maidana’s advisor. “In reality, Serra never served as manager of Maidana, and much less, since 2008, as stated in his claim, since he hasn’t seen the face of Chino since 2006. Seven years later, Serra presented in court a contract, signed in 2004, which not only never came into force, but it has several irregularities.”

Contursi claims Serra forged the effective dates of the contract in question, adding that “it’s unfortunate that the Court ordered this baseless embargo on Maidana’s purse without further review, thus badly damaging a popular idol just weeks before facing one of the most important world events in recent years for an Argentine athlete.”

Maidana’s legal advisor Dr. Carlos Alberto Pujol stated that Serra deceived the court into ordering the embargo probably for negotiations on a future settlement in exchange for the lifting of the measure. Pujol says this will not happen because the demand by Serra does not withstand the slightest scrutiny.
