Ppl hate on this but I don’t get why, did they expect him to fight a top 50 guy let alone someone whose name rings bells in one of the least mainstream weightclasses of all?
This is exactly the kind of fight I’d expect an unexperienced boxer takes making his way up instead of them old UFC dudes… :yeshrug:

the worst thing a fighter can do is deviate from his destiny..this was the deviation...roy was heavyweight champion..had the opportunity to make heavyweight money..career money..with tyson, with holyfield, and resurging toney, byrd..hell even lewis if somehow paths crossed...threw all that away because tarver got under his skin and he didnt take the weight off properly..the rare roy gutcheck..might be the only gutcheck he won before falling off completely

i said it before..the sohh thread on this fight was classic...mad ppl were vexed seeing roy get his ass handed to him by calzaghe esp after dropping him in the 1st round...a whole bunch of "damn roy" posts

ill always respect bhop for taking a fight like this because dude was still p4p top 5 at the time and was trying to unify 175...did not like kovalev hitting him with the shots he was..kovalev was like an animal...bhop was sticking his tongue out at him and it only made kovalev madder and hit him harder

So happy Andre Ward got the revenge for Hopkins. And helped exposed that the Eastern Euros don't like body shots

And Roy fumbled not facing James Toney and Byrd at heavyweight. But no way he faces Lewis IMO lol

Did "Tarver get under his skin" or did the water get very very hot on the means he used to transform into a heavyweight and he hit the ejecto seat before they made him into boxings Barry Bonds :hubie:

No one ever wants to ask the tough questions about Roy, his miraculous mid 30's transition to a heavyweight, and how quickly he reverted back to size.

Dude had what? 5-6 months off of a LHW fight then turned up against Ruiz looking like Popeye on the Spinach. Then all gone for Tarver a few months later. No one wants to say out loud what Roy did and what it cost him.

Well damn, never thought of it like that to be honest. Was there actual heat coming his way as far as using substances to get muscle to become a Heavyweight?

I get your point, but I feel like everyone has always asked that question? 'Why did Roy fukk his career up going up and down?' . The subtext being PED's obviously, but this isn't just a Roy question. It's a boxing question. 80%+ of the boxers that go up in weight classes in the last 40 years have most likely benefitted from PED's of some description.

Not saying it's without fault, but that's just what it is. :manny:

Roy should have targeted Byrd after the Ruiz fight. That was the perfect fight to unify.

Byrd was a smaller heavy, and a light puncher.

Win or lose, Roy most likely would have came out of that fight unscathed.

After that, he should have retired. Jones should have retired in 2003.

The fact that he’s been fighting the past 20 years indicates to me he must have had financial issues.

Roy tested hot "5-6" times over the human level of testosterone for his fight against Richard Hall, and the only reason nothing happened is because the fight happened in Indianapolis. Makes you wonder, what fighter spent his peak years fighting in smaller fight markets with weaker commissions like Florida, Louisiana, and Mississippi :hubie:

And yes, Jones was linked to BALCO (just like Shane, who was on full program of gas for his jumps to 147 and 154 against Oscar). And yes, his very first fight after the scandal broke (September 2003), was Roy looking skinny and human against Tarver.
