L'Equipe reports that French promoter Sebastien Acaries has sued network Canal+ to force them to show and finance a defense by WBA cruiserweight king Arsen Goulamirian (27-0) against Brit Tommy McCarthy (20-4) on September 10 in Marseille. However, Canal+ has decided not to be involved in the boxing business anymore.
The dispute is over a contract signed in 2020 that called for Canal+ to air three events during that year. However, as Goulamirian was injured and Covid-19 ruled the world none of the shows took place. Canal+ did show Goulamirian's defense against Aleksei Egorov on November 29 of last year and then wanted out while Acaries claims there are two more shows on the contract.
If the promoter Acaries loses in court to Canal+ Goulamirian vs McCarthy is off. A verdict is expected on August 25.
