Arum: I Don't See Any Impediment To Getting Fury-Usyk Done Sometime Before Ramadan

Assuming Tyson Fury defeats Dereck Chisora for the third time December 3, the unbeaten WBC heavyweight champion’s co-promoter cannot see anything stopping him from fighting Oleksander Usyk next.
Bob Arum informed BoxingScene.com that the promotional plan is for Fury and Usyk to square off at some point late in the winter at a location to be determined in the Middle East. If Usyk and Fury fight, the winner would become the first fully unified heavyweight champion of boxing’s four-belt era.
“I think everybody on Fury’s side feels that way,” Arum said to BoxingScene. “And because Egis [Klimas, Usyk’s manager] is such a good friend of mine – and so is Usyk, by the way – that I know they feel that way. So, I don’t see any impediment to getting that fight done sometime before Ramadan. That’s what Tyson wants to do and that’s what Usyk wants to do. So, it would be crazy not to put this thing on either the last week in February or the first week in March.”
The start of Ramadan is an important deadline if they’re to avoid pushing Fury-Usyk into the spring because all Middle Eastern countries observe the Muslim month for fasting, prayer and reflection. Ramadan will begin March 22 and is set to end April 21.
Arum mentioned Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates as countries that could host a Fury-Usyk fight, depending on where investors put up the money to fund their eight-figure purses.
Ukraine’s Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) defeated Anthony Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) by unanimous decision in their 12-round rematch to retain his IBF, IBO, WBA and WBO belts August 20 at Jeddah Superdome in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. England’s Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs) has not fought in a Middle Eastern country, but the former IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO champ has expressed optimism about boxing Usyk somewhere in that region.
“Wherever he can get exposure, he’ll be a star,” Arum said. “Forget his fighting ability, which is obviously on a high plane and makes him very enjoyable to watch. But essentially, he’s a showman. Where have you seen a fighter that conducts himself like Tyson Fury does?”
First, of course, the Manchester native must conquer Chisora (33-12, 23 KOs) in what is widely viewed as a tune-up fight for the heavily favored Fury two weeks from Saturday night at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
The 34-year-old Fury convincingly out-pointed Chisora in their first fight, a 12-rounder in July 2011 at Wembley Arena in London. Fury beat the Zimbabwe-born, London-based Chisora even easier in their rematch, which was stopped after 10 one-sided rounds in November 2014 at ExCeL London.
Fury has invited criticism by agreeing to face Chisora a third time. The 38-year-old Chisora did, however, give Usyk difficulty during a 12-rounder that the former undisputed cruiserweight champion won by unanimous decision in October 2020 at Wembley Arena.
Fury’s obvious advantage notwithstanding, Arum will be anxious about the fate of Fury-Usyk until Fury leaves the ring victorious and unscathed December 3.
“These fights are dangerous because you’re in the heavyweight division and these big guys, by and large all of them, have terrific [power],” Arum said. “And if you’re not careful, you can get hit on the chin and it’s lights out.”

Anthony Dirrell Doesn't Envision Plant Beating Benavidez: “I Think It'll Be A One Sided Fight”

BY HANS THEMISTODE

Although Anthony Dirrell isn't getting any younger, at the age of 38, the former two-time super middleweight belt holder firmly believed that at least one world title run was left in his aging bones.

Desperate to prove that his time amongst the division’s elite was far from over, the Flint, Michigan native attempted to hand Caleb Plant just the second defeat of his career. But while Dirrell promised to deliver an explosive performance, Plant issued a statement of his own, stopping his man in his tracks via ninth-round stoppage.

With Dirrell now out of the way, Plant (22-1, 13 KOs) appears to be on a collision course with former two-time WBC trinket holder, David Benavidez. Having fought the 25-year-old just a few short years ago, Dirrell gave his official prediction for their possible showdown.

“Both of them are good fighters,” said Dirrell to ESNEWS. “I think David brings a little bit more to the table.”

In September of 2019, Dirrell squared off against a young and exuberant Benavidez. Much like his matchup against Plant, the 38-year-old jawed back and forth with his man during the lead-up. Nevertheless, despite his bravado, Dirrell found himself on the wrong end of a one-sided beating, losing via ninth-round knockout.

Regardless of the violent nature in which Dirrell was issued his defeat, he believes that Benavidez (26-0, 23 KOs) has exhibited several holes in his overall game, something that Plant could take advantage of. But, in spite of his deficiencies, Dirrell is confident that Benavidez will emerge triumphantly.

“Sometimes, David has a problem with boxers. Like, people that move, elusive. But I think David's hands are pretty fast and he has a little snap on his punches. I think that’ll be a factor that beats Caleb but that’ll be a helluva fight.”

Well before capturing his first world title in 2017, Benavidez loathed Plant. For the next several years, both fighters chastised one another in the public eye. While it appears as though the pair could look to settle their differences at some point in 2023, Benavidez has given his full attention to Jose Uzcategui, a fighter Plant defeated in 2019.

Should things go according to plan and the two finally meet in the squared circle, Dirrell has a sneaking suspicion that Plant will be forced to endure a long and painful night.

“I don’t think he stops Caleb but I think it'll be a one-sided fight cause he’s so fast and elusive with his hand speed.”

Benavidez claims to be running 5 miles a day already. Sounds pretty motivated here. shyt might be curtains for that hypejob plant
