K1 rules/Dutch kickboxing is the second most entertaining combat sport to watch after boxing imo but for some reason it could never become that big in the West. K-1 came closest in its peak days, late 90s to early 00s but otherwise just no.Floyd being Floyd. Even Rizin being Rizin. Tenshin vs Takeru is like P4P vs P4P type of stuff in kickboxing, an all Japan matchup, Rizin is the promoter….yet they lost the TV rights and are struggling with the pre ppv sales and promotion…that fight is in like 4 days…and they announced this lol. They’re shadowing their own fight and Floyd is in cahoots again inadvertently with shadowing Tenshin.
I legit feel bad for Tenshin, this is the reason he’s quitting kickboxing and switching full time to boxing after this fight.
Strange thing considering how action packed it is usually.
I guess boxing is the main for those focused on stand up and for those who like to watch grappling there’s MMA. Plus kick boxing is even more fragmented than your average combat sport.
A bit surprising to read this though as I thought kick boxing is a lot more popular in Japan than in the West, K-1 used to be huge there
