Hearn: Canelo Could Fight Ryder Or Buatsi-Richards Winner December 17th In London

LAS VEGAS – Eddie Hearn thinks bringing Canelo Alvarez back to Mexico for the third fight of their DAZN deal late this year would be “historic in ways you could never imagine.”

The Mexican icon hasn’t boxed in his home country since November 2011, when the four-division champion stopped Kermit Cintron in the fifth round of their WBC 154-pound title fight at Plaza de Toros Monumental, a bullring in Mexico City. Hearn also would love to take Alvarez across the Atlantic Ocean for a fight in the British promoter’s home country.

Hearn told a group of reporters Wednesday that there have been internal discussions about Alvarez boxing a third time in 2022 if he defeats Dmitry Bivol in their WBA light heavyweight title fight Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena and conquers rival Gennadiy Golovkin in their third bout, a super middleweight championship match, September 17 at a venue to be determined.

The potential opponents Hearn mentioned for an Alvarez fight December 17 in London wouldn’t be viewed as competitive for Alvarez as Russia’s Bivol (19-0, 11 KOs) or Kazakhstan’s Golovkin (42-1-1, 36 KOs), even at 40 years old.

“Well, we have the two mandatories,” Hearn said. “Like if he fights in England, which he wants to do, we have the two mandatories in the two divisions that he holds belts in. So, John Ryder at super middle and [Joshua] Buatsi fighting Craig Richards for an eliminator in the WBA. So, he could fight John Ryder, or he could fight Buatsi or Craig Richards, whoever wins that fight. Or, he could go to Mexico and have a huge fight in December.

“I don’t think that the December fight would be like a Beterbiev or anything like that. If he’s doing it at the end of the year, it’s more an experience. Like I think the next thing to do with Saul is to box him around the world. Like I would love to do a fight in Mexico. I think it would be incredible. I would also love to bring him to London. And I think he would really enjoy it.”

Russia’s Artur Beterbiev (17-0, 17 KOs), the IBF and WBC light heavyweight champion, is scheduled to battle WBO champ Joe Smith Jr. (28-3, 22 KOs), of Mastic, New York, in a 12-round, 175-pound title unification fight June 18 at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater in New York. If he beats Bivol, facing the winner would afford Alvarez an opportunity to become boxing’s first fully unified light heavyweight champion of the sport’s four-belt era.

London’s Ryder (31-5, 17 KOs) edged Daniel Jacobs (37-4, 30 KOs) by split decision in their 12-rounder February 12 at Alexandra Palace in London. Alvarez beat Brooklyn’s Jacobs (37-4, 30 KOs) by unanimous decision in their 12-round middleweight title fight in May 2019 at T-Mobile Arena.

Buatsi (15-0, 13 KOs) and Richards (17-2-1, 10 KOs), a pair of London-based light heavyweight contenders, are set to meet May 21 at O2 Arena in London. The winner will become the mandatory challenger for the WBA belt Bivol will defend versus Alvarez.

Whoever Alvarez decides to box if he beats Bivol and Golovkin in his first two appearances of 2022, Hearn acknowledged that a December 17 return would force a quick turnaround for the ambitious Alvarez (57-1-2, 39 KOs).

“They want me to set the fight now,” Hearn said. “I mean, you know, when you go into a Triple-G fight September 17th and talked about fighting December [17th], like, you know, it’s quite incredible. You’d have to basically have a week off and start camp again after a Triple-G fight.”

Spence might beat him worse than Mayweather did at 37 years old :mjlol: Canelo the one who don’t really care about a “pay day” . Str8 white entitled bytch fighting Europeans :hhh:it’s disgusting and disrespectful to the sport what he is doing

Years of beating up flat, weak azz eurocacs really has a lot of ppl hyptnotized. Now he's more dangerous than prime Foreman or some shyt to these cats. This man is scared of a fxcking welterweight and somehow he gets a pass

Thurman made a fool of everybody(including me).. To Haymon's brilliance I gotta give it to him.. He really tricked millions into believing the Thurmans/Porters/Danny's were elite fighters..(Haymon has even managed to somehow convince stupid fans that Spence stands a chance vs Canelo ::francis:) its like we in the twilight zone..you still got idiots trying to prop Thurman up when he hasn’t beat a notable welterweight(never beat an elite welter) since March 2017.. This was 5 years ago and people still believe this guy poses some real threat.. Couldn't even drop a damn Barrios in a ppv that flopped horribly.. Breh probably loses or struggles badly to every top 10 rated welterweight at this point

How many elite fighters In any weight class has Bud beat?? :russ:

I look forward to you Juelzing

Spence stans get gleeful at any chance for Spence to duck Bud. Doesn't surprise me they were trying to move weight classes once the 'side of the streets' debacle was settled.

Can't run forever.:shaq:
