Watching the Olympics, some good fights but also some terrible scorings (not as much as used to though) and these amateur rules keep being irritating. They treat these adult athletes like they'd be children with giving standing eight count any time someone wobbles and stopping fights way too quick in general. I don't know why they are doing this, the only thing amateur boxing should be different from pro is that it's not for money, there are 3 rounds and that they wear a shirt, nothing else.
I enjoy these fights but I always disagreed with amateur boxing being treated as some different sport. Its main purpose should be to prepare these fighters to the pro game, have them compete in international competitions, etc., a hatchery of the pro boxing scene, but not the end goal, not the final destination.
Most fighters fortunately turn pro over time but plenty of countries have boxing cultures that discourage them from doing so which is crazy.
