Former three division world champion Felix Trinidad is regarded by many as one of the greatest Puerto Rican boxers in history, has high hopes for two unbeaten prospects from the country.

The last big star from Puerto Rico was Miguel Cotto. The four division champion retired from the sport in 2017 after suffering an upset decision loss at the hands of Sadam Ali.

Since that moment, Puerto Rico has been searching for their next superstar.

At one point Felix Verdejo was viewed as the boxer to become the next big star from PR - but he was unable to meet expectations.

Trinidad believes there is plenty of young talent representing Puerto Rico.

One of the boxers very high on his list is super middleweight Edgar Berlanga.

Berlanga has a record of 17 wins with 16 of them by knockout.

He knocked out his first 16 opponents in the very first round. Back in April, he went the full eight round distance with Demond Nicholson, who managed to survive despite going down several times in the fight.

Trinidad expects Berlanga to become a world champion in the near future.

And the other boxer to catch his eye if unbeaten welterweight Xander Zayas (9-0, 7 KOs)

"Edgar is a powerful boxer with a huge heart. He's learning each and every day, and I know soon enough he's going to be a world champion," Trinidad told the DAZN Boxing Show.

"There are various boxers – a fighter like Zayas. He's a great fighter at 147 pounds. Edgar Berlanga has a very bright future. He needs to continue training hard, stick with his corner, his father, and he will be world champion very soon.”

i have no interest in seeing Crawford fight a podcaster. He needs to take on real challenges. What about Jose Carlos Ramirez? They went back & forth. They’re both with top rank. It’s easy to make, and more importantly it’s a real fight. So what that he lost his last fight, you could say the same for this podcaster.

Why would I want to see a world class fighter against a podcaster ? :russ:

It don’t even make sense man. The guy just gets in the ring and wrestles and hugs like he’s in the wwe, which is his real calling. His own father is probably the biological father to his kid. He constantly gets outshined by his cohosts on his own podcast.

Terrance don’t need to waste the time.

If he wins, they’d just say he beat a full time podcaster more focused on his brand.

We need the WBSS back in one of these divisions soon

A 154 WBSS since it’s a “non-glory division” and one of the few divisions that you’ll get an undisputed Title fight in this era would be dope. Imagine Spence(won’t ever happen until Jermell goes to MW/they’ll probably never fight) moving up to be in a tourney with the current 154 pounders. shyt would be fuego :banderas:

108 WBSS would be great, 154 good too but they fight each other in that division anyway. I think WBSS works best in divisions where there's plenty talent, less politics but the influx of bigger money is needed. 108 is perfect for that.

Trinidad on Berlanga...

Not sold on Berlanga yet as a future top fighter.
I know he's having this thing with the celebs and TR promotes the shyt out of that and his power, naturally but imo he still has a long way to go and I struggle to guess his ceiling. On paper he's still 24 so he can improve leaps and bounds but there are fighters who are not capable of that.
