WBC Prez Confirms That Whyte is Not The Mandatory To Fury-Wilder Winner

World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman has made it clear that currently there is no mandatory challenger to WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

Fury will return on July 24th, when he faces former champion Deontay Wilder in a trilogy fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Last year, Dillian Whyte was getting close to a mandatory crack at the title - but he was brutally knocked out by Alexander Povetkin.

Earlier this year, Whyte reclaimed the WBC's interim-title when he knocked out Povetkin in their rematch.

However, the victory over Povetkin has not established Whyte as the mandatory challenger to the title.

According to Sulaiman, the mandatory situation will be sorted out in the aftermath of the Fury-Wilder trilogy.

“At this moment there is no mandatory contender in the division. We have this fight that is happening on July 24 and afterwards we will be addressing this matter. We have just seen in the news that Whyte will be fighting in August," Sulaiman told Boxing Social.

“We have not received a sanction request [from Whyte and his team], that’s what we saw in the news. This is always an ever ongoing situation. There’s not much I can say right now. We’re in a process that we have to deal with and as soon as we have news about this matter, we will be letting you know.”

Should Fury come away victorious, he will likely target a full division unification with IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO champion Anthony Joshua - provided Joshua defeats mandatory challenger Oleksandr Usyk in September.

There is a possibility that Fury will submit an application to make a voluntary defense before a fight with Joshua takes place.

yeah they are waiting to see if that joshua vs fury fight pops off after their respective fights...whyte is going to be waiting a little longer..which wouldnt be if he didnt get ko'd by Povetkin

It does for Crawford. 'Hardcore' boxing fans and their 'eye test' have allowed this man to be able to fight Jose fukking Zepeda for $4 million on primetime TV and they'll sit there and still claim he is P4P #1 with a straight fukking face the whole damn time.

i take it more as Top Rank being desperate for talent

Bob Arum: Teofimo Lopez should have been vaccinated | DAZN News US

The unified champion has had to postpone his title clash with his IBF mandatory George Kambosos.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has said his fighter Teofimo Lopez should have had a Covid-19 vaccine.

Lopez returned a positive PCR test result for the coronavirus this week, forcing the postponement of his June 19 clash with George Kambosos Jr. to August 14.

While Arum is confident that Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder is not subject to the same vulnerabilities, Arum implied that the unified lightweight champion had been irresponsible.

“We tell all our fighters – you guys are fighting for big money and promoters are laying out big money,” Arum said, according to BoxingScene.com. “Get yourself vaccinated, so you don’t [contract] the COVID. Now, you take the two fighters here, Fury is totally vaccinated. And I talked with [manager] Shelly Finkel a little while ago, and he said that Wilder’s been fully vaccinated. And their corners have been vaccinated. That’s taking responsibility.”

Arum then turned his attention to Lopez, who was due for a fight on Triller away from Top Rank. The promotional outfit and Lopez recently signed an improved deal to resolve the lingering tensions between the two parties.

“Now Teofimo, you know, he was off with this Triller thing and so forth,” Arum said. “There was no reason why before he went into training that he didn’t get vaccinated. No reason! And if he had gotten vaccinated, he wouldn’t have lost his payday. So, I feel sorry for him, but the fight will happen.

“But again, this is different from when we first went into the bubble last June, and we had every other fight with a guy getting COVID because nobody really knew how to handle it. But now, with the vaccination, anybody gets COVID. Shame on them. Shame on them because they hadn’t taken the time, or they hadn’t, for some crazy reason, decided not to get vaccinated. That’s nuts!”

stripFury of the belts. Let AJ vs Usyk be for the Ring joint, or just do a WBC tourney, winner gets AJ and then that be for Undisputed + Ring

So apparently there is a rumor that Fury got stopped on his feet by Jared Anderson in sparring and that has something to do with him trying to get out of this.
