I'd give it to Valdez just off of beating Berchelt in his prime, Berchelt made his name off of beating washed up Mexicans/Asians

I used past sentence, I meant before the Valdez fight, not now. You're partially right but Berchelt beating Vargas, Miura and Roman was still more than what the other title holders did around that time. If that speaks more about the quality of the other champs' competition I can agree with that but still
