The Traps of Unified Korea

Watched both of these fights when they aired with my older brothers as a young dude :mjcry: lol
I never thought about this 'till now. But it's interesting that Oscar's name never comes up as "ATG At X Weight" convos the way people will specifically talk about say, Roy at 168 or Shane at Lightweight. Oscar at lighweight was wild problematic. Iirc correctly all his fights at LW were title fights, and he stopped everyone other than Molina.

Also, he went from champ at 130 to champ at 147 in three years, getting belts and having multiple fights at every weight along the way. If someone was doing that now I'd probably say they're throwing themselves in the bushes making moves like that. And coming back to the Terry Norris convo the other day, was really about to go to 154 in 97/98, making it five divisions in 3-4 years :gucci:

The same except the older brother part..esp paid attention to Tracy's fight. My dad was trained by his pops Floyd Patterson in the 70s...he knew both of them.

Oscar was definitely a bad man at LW. But what hurt him was not campaigning long enough there & at 140. I know we joke on him now but he really challenged himself back in the day in a way most fighters don't today. The older I've gotten the more I gave him a little bit of a pass for not running it back with Bazooka because he almost fought all the top guys with very few misses. And for the record, if Terry was healthy he would've whipped Oscar's ass lol

That's crazy bro! I had seen Patterson fight & liked him but that was the first time I ever saw Gatti. That fight was close & could've easily went to Patterson if I remember correctly

uppercut season :wow:
"I remember being in close with him and then he’s hit me with a left uppercut, ripped my nose right back and I thought, ‘b*stard.’ It was when my nose went. I was thinking, ‘He’s going to go to the body now, left hook to the body.’ But he hit me with the left uppercut again. I thought, ‘He’s got to go downstairs now’ and I put my arm down and he hit me with the left uppercut again. Proper rammed it up three times. "- Martin Murray
