Sergio Martinez vs. Jussi Koivula Deal Reached For December 5
By Elisinio Castillo

Published On Wed Sep 23, 2020, 07:43 PM EST

Former two division world champion Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez has already set down an opponent for his next fight.

He will face the Finnish contender Jussi Koivula on December 5th in Spain.

The boxer, who will stage the event thought his own promotional company, confirmed the information on Wednesday.

Although so far the Spanish city that will host the event has not been specified. It has been reported in the media that the fight between "Maravilla" Martínez and Koivula will possibly take place in Torrelavega.

This is the second fight for the comeback of Martinez, after his return to the ring on August 21, when he stopped Spanish contender José Miguel Fandino, after the pause imposed by the coronavirus pandemic on sports.

That bout was his first since 2014, when he suffered a knockout loss at the hands of Miguel Cotto in their middleweight title clash.

It should be remembered that the 45-year-old boxer from Buenos Aires has a record of 52 wins (29 KO), 3 defeats and 2 draws, and since his last fight, he has been positioned in sixth place in the middleweight division rankings of the World Boxing Association (WBA).

Martinez is hoping to have a few more fights before securing a title fight with WBA "regular" champion Ryota Murata of Japan.

For his part, the 36-year-old boxer Koivula, a native of Tampere, Finland, has not fought for more than a year. He's lost three of his last four fights, and he's been away from the ring after losing by knockout to Conor Benn last year.

He has a record of 24 victories (9 on the fast track) and 7 losses (3 before the limit).

i see ppl are pressing jojo diaz cuz he doesnt want to run it back with farmer lol....but farmer has that rematch clause

nikkas really wanna see a run back with a dude who barely won 3 rounds against an opponent that had a cut almost as bad as the one Jack and Fury got last year. :hhh:

Farmer had that belt on career mode and lost the one meaningful fight he made. :mjlol:
