They got Spences next 4 fights lined up. Crawford has to look at the best available options at this point. Brook, Ramirez, Progries vs Taylor winner, Vergil Ortiz Jr.

I'm not holdin my breath, Benavidez is Mexican(-American) and a Haymon fighter, WBC probably won't order it but if it would happen that would be a great fight. Smith beats Benavidez imo

David Benavidez vs. Avni Yildirim Will Be Next, Says WBC Prez

David Benavidez vs. Avni Yildirim Will Be Next, Says WBC Prez

The World Boxing Council will order their brand new super middleweight champion, David Benavidez, to defend the 168-pound title against Turkish puncher Avni Yildirim, who is waiting for the opportunity after losing a technical decision back in February to the now former champion, Anthony Dirrell.

Benavidez, who established himself as the youngest champion in the history of the division, knocked out Dirrell in nine rounds last Saturday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, to reconquer the title - after losing the WBC strap due to a doping issue in 2018.

"The winner (of Dirrell against Benavidez) was obligated to fight with Avni Yildirim, who fought for the title with Dirrell (in February). It was a technical decision by a cut and a direct rematch was determined, but as the fight with Benavidez took place , the winner had to go with Yildirim," WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman told ESPN Deportes.

Benavidez and his team revealed the possibility of unifying titles against Caleb Plant, who is the current champion of the International Boxing Federation - and promoter Eddie Hearn asked the WBC to order Benavidez to fight Callum Smith, who owns the organization's Diamond belt and he is also the world champion of the World Boxing Association.

In the case of Spence, who took over the WBC welterweight belt on Saturday by dethroning Shawn Porter at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, the sanctioning body said they will wait until their upcoming annual convention to decide what to do, since Yordenis Ugas is a mandatory challenger, but Danny Garcia, a former champion of the WBC, is being lined up to face Spence.

In fact, at the end of the fight between Spence and Porter, Garcia came in the ring and challenged Errol to a future fight - which is being targeted for a date of January 25.

He going to probably face Plant right after this. Hearn had to do this because he doesn't have a fight for dude and think his last fight on his contract is coming up (This is probably why Jacobs is moving up to 168). He may end up leaving for the PBC (Benavidez, Eubank Jr, Plant) or Top Rank.

I thought We Be Crooks would not prefer to order it even though Smith is waiting for some time now, longer than Yildirim. Sooner or later they will have to order it I guess they prefer later. I’m cool with Benavidez vs Plant too, I have Plant beating Benavidez too. Winner can fight Smith. Or winner of Smith vs BJS is it happens until then too.

Not so sure about that, can Callum take a punch
Seems to me is Benavidez one of those guys the general public is higher on than me.
He has good handspeed and flurries, good power, a decent but not great jab and I guess he's tough (?) but otherwise I don't see it. Every time I see him he looks pretty stiff, despite what I read from some I think he is fairly easy to hit, he follows guys around the ring, seems uncomfortable when someone doesn't bring the action to him and my god is he slow as fukk on his toes.
Don't get me wrong though it's not like he would be a terrible fighter, he is still a "good" fighter despite all his flaws, it was enough to beat Dirrell at least who's not bad but he's not all that good. Or not yet at least, he can still improve at 22. If he beats Plant, Smith or BJS I'll concede I was wrong but currently I don't see it.

As for Smith's chin, he ate some big shots from Groves and wasn't hurt, I think he at least has an average chin. Benavidez was KD by Gavril.

I expect Benavidez to style on Yildirim though, Yildirim will bring him the heat but he doesn't have Benavidez's power and handspeed, he will get clapped in the exchanges just like he was against Eubank. If Benavidez couldn't take him out that would be a bad look though.
