Am I crazy for thinking what Joshua needs to use a lead left hook and uppercuts more in the rematch and instead of the jab. The problem to me is his jab isn’t hard enough to discourage Ruiz. If he can go back to combination punching he’d have a better chance of catching Ruiz or keeping him at bay.
It's probably a combination, from what I gather he underestimated Ruiz and overlooked him, when he caught him he got sloppy and was made to pay. A stiff jab would help keep him away, if he moves and jabs he can use some of his size to his advantage, up close and trading is a risk with Ruiz's fast hands, could get caught with another shot, but if he picks his openings well he could systematically break him down and make him tire also with the right shots and then land his own combinations of different punches. If he goes in sloppily though it becomes who lands first because it looked like both could hurt eachother, just Ruiz hit him with far more shots. Should be a very interesting fight, stylistically 1 of the worst styles probably for AJ but with an effective gameplan is something he is capable of overcoming.
