Mikey Garcia: My Main Target, Focus and No. 1 Goal is Spence!

WBC, IBF lightweight champion Mikey Garcia (39-0, 30 KOs) is still very much focused on jumping two weight divisions, to 147-pounds, for a potential showdown with IBF welterweight king Errol Spence.

Garcia captured world titles at featherweight, super featherweight, lightweight and junior welterweight.

He picked up the IBF's title earlier this year with a twelve round decision over Sergey Lipinets, and then moved back down to 135-pounds to dominate Robert Easter on route to a unification win to join the WBC, IBF belts.

Garcia has several directions in his path.

He could wait out for the winner of the WBA, WBO unification between Vasyl Lomachenko and Jose Pedraza, which takes place in December. There is a possible mandatory fight with Richard Commey, and several other options are out there at 135 and 140pounds.

But the main goal for Garcia, is a fifth divisional title and to overthrow the most feared fighter in the weight class.

“My main target, focus and No. 1 goal right now is getting a fight with Errol Spence,” said Garcia, 30, said to Premier Boxing Champions.

“If Errol for some reason is unavailable, then I’ll see what options are available. But I’m still focused solely on getting an Errol Spence fight. Nothing else excites me other than that one, so we’re working on that.”

A fight with Spence is the easiest to make, because they both fight on Showtime and work with powerful adviser Al Haymon.

Spence has seen action twice in 2018 and he wants to defend his title for a third time before the year is out. He started off the year with a stoppage victory over Lamont Peterstion and then months later he blew away mandatory challenger Carlos Ocampo in a single round.

Spence and Garcia would like to fight each other in December, but that is likely not going to happen.

:hhh:

In December it's Loma vs Pedraza. Assuming Loma wins we could have a 4 belts unification in 135 in our hands between 2 top P4P guys with the winner becoming a lock at p4p #1 and doing something truly remarkable.

But no.
This dude is on his Kell Brook and is "only interested" in jumping 2 divisions to fight Spence in a win-win matchup just cause he had a beef with Arum (who said he would make the fight btw). Stop it Mikey. :stopitslime:

Golovkin Wants to 'Punish' Canelo 'For Bad Things He Has Done'

Golovkin Wants to 'Punish' Canelo 'For Bad Things He Has Done'

By Keith Idec

Gennady Golovkin divulged Tuesday that he plans to “punish” Canelo Alvarez in their rematch for everything that has happened between them over the past six months.

I want to punish him,” Golovkin said during a conference call, according to his translator. “I want to have a fight and punish him for all the bad things that he and his team have done – to size him down and put them in their place.”

Abel Sanchez, Golovkin’s trainer, isn’t concerned that his fighter’s anger toward Alvarez will consume him when they meet in their middleweight championship rematch September 15 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (HBO Pay-Per-View).

Sanchez is confident Golovkin will channel his emotions effectively while trying to make Alvarez pay for failing two performance-enhancing drug tests in February and causing their rematch, initially scheduled for May 5, to be canceled.

“He’s not angry,” Sanchez said later during the conference call. “He’s got a purpose in the gym and he’s got a purpose of what he wants to do inside the ring. Canelo’s done some things that he feels he needs to pay for, and he’ll do that in the ring. In the gym, it’s just another day training in the gym. He’s the same guy that he was before. He trains hard. Just his mentality for this fight seems to be very, very focused on trying to punish Canelo, as he was when he fought [Curtis] Stevens. If you recall, when he fought Stevens, he was like that, too. He has the same mentality.”

Brooklyn’s Stevens excessively talked trash to Golovkin before their November 2013 bout in The Theater at Madison Square Garden. Stevens even predicted he’d put Golovkin in a coffin and staged a fake funeral for the then-upcoming champion, which offended Golovkin.

Kazakhstan’s Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 KOs) knocked down Stevens in the second round. He won by technical knockout when Stevens’ trainer, Andre Rozier, told referee Harvey Dock to stop their fight right after the eighth round ended.

Mexico’s Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) hasn’t lost by knockout or technical knockout during his 12-year pro career.

this went well

it always does
Jones -- who normally takes very few risks, and is therefore usually impossible to hit -- is emotionally charged for Tarver in a way he has not been for any light heavyweight since Griffin in the rematch. Following that one round blowout, Roy said that the "loss" in their fight brought out his vicious alter ego, "RJ," for their second one.

RJ takes more risks than Roy and is therefore a more dynamic offensive fighter -- but also a more vulnerable one defensively. If Tarver has brought out RJ, it should be an easy fight for Jones. Easy, and dangerous.

Center self, inner self
I rewatched the GGG vs Canelo 2 fight. The entire fight is on YouTube in HD. I scored it this time. I had it 114-114 a draw.

On my scorecard GGG won rounds 1, 6-10.
On my scorecard Canelo won rounds 2-5, 11 and 12.
My swing rounds we're rounds 1, 4, 8 and 11.

Abel Sanchez was right, Gennady took off round 12 and it lost him the fight. Ironically the fight scored just like the first fight for me, Canelo winning until the 4th or 5th round and gassing out.

A lot of people are getting on Gennady for boxing, but truth be told he had no other choice. Gennady's power isn't there anymore, nor are his legs. He had no steam on his punches, he was off balance a lot, his motlith was agape by round 3 and he couldn't deal with Saul's hand speed until he gassed. I think Canelo taking his punches like they were nothing really got to his confidence.

GGG got better at protecting his body in the later rounds; it's no coincidence he was able to do better the latter part of the fight. It was hilarious watching Gennady throw pull counters in the later rounds, esp round 10-11. Gennady had no leverage on his shots this fight.

Anyways GGG is done. His power is gone because his legs are gone. He gets KOed by Charlo and he gets embarrassed by the guy fighting Billy Joe. ATG who was avoided until his body broke down. Salute to GGG :salute:
