Guys is there a boxer who comes to mind that has really quick hands but their footspeed doesn't seem to match their handspeed? Canelo got quick hands but seems to have cement feet at times but he has great defence.Berto is ridiculously fast but can be really stationary and trades even to his detriment. Meldrick Taylor punched in blurs but liked to trade a bit too much. Fought on the inside a ton with cesar chavez.
has to do with your hips. most guys hips are three quarter. three quarter is somewhere between squared up and sideways.

same way in pitching how three quarter is somewhere between side arm

a lot of boxing terms come from pitching and fencing.

anyway to move around from three quarter heres what you got to do.

you step over with your front foot and you press down. then you bring over your back foot and you repeat. you can move around. just not so fast. you ever saw a guy with his hips three quarter this was probably how he was moving around.

but to move around faster you got to point your hips sideways. just makes it so you can walk backwards.

you can walk backwards.

you can jog backwards.

you move around faster. thats why guys with fast feet point their hips sideways.

you can move your feet a lot faster with your hips pointed sideways than you can with your hips pointed three quarter. thats why a lot of those guys you just named dont have fast feet.

but the fastest way to move around is from a skip and you got to be squared up to skip. thing is you cant punch from a skip cause it puts both of your feet up in the air and you got to come down out of your skip to set your feet to punch.

you know who had fast hands not fast feet? michael dokes.

damn you're right. My style kicboxing was a lot of come forward and kinda squared up I'm slow of feet but I was told I got quick hands.
Back in the early 90s, there was a heavyweight from California with some of the fastest hands I've ever seen but he never seemed to move his feet. He used to land combinations on guys at will like how David Benavidez did before he KO'd Porky Medina. If anyone remembers him, I think he had a Jheri curl. Dude just fell off the map.
Was it dokes like mentioned above?

It wasn't Dokes. It was a much younger guy. Guy was prospect. He was on USA and ESPN a few times.
He ever win a world title? On other guy I know with jerri curl was tony tucker but he was more known for power.

edit on a related note Ed Hospin was another example. He's lesser known but one of the fastest hands I've ever seen

Like I said, the guy never got that far. He just dropped off the face of the earth. This was around '95/'96ish.

Tony Tucker was well known.

He's talking about a random prospect that probably had a lot of talent, but could have disappeared due to injuries, lack of chin, etc.

I'm interested in knowing who he is, especially because he's a heavyweight. You don't see to many guys with blazing speed in that weight class.
