Daniel Jacobs: I'm Glad Canelo Got Caught, Tarnishes His Legacy

by Radio Rahim

Former middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (33-2, 29 KOs) is just a few days away from making his in-ring debut for 2018.

This coming Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Jacobs will face undefeated Polish contender Maciej Sulecki (26-0, 10 KOs) in an HBO televised main event.

Jacobs was last in the ring back in November, when he dominated undefeated Luis Arias over twelve rounds of action.

One of the bigger stories in Jacobs' division, is the recent suspension of Mexican superstar Saul "Caenlo" Alvarez.

Canelo was scheduled to face IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) on May 5th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

But back in February, the boxer came up positive in two separate drug tests for the banned substance clenbuterol.

The Mexican star strongly maintains that he inadvertently ingested contaminated meat while holding his training camp in Mexico.

He was forced to withdraw from the Golovkin rematch and received a six month suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Golovkin will move forward on the May date, but now against Vanes Martirosyan at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Canelo plans to fight again in September.

Jacobs believes the suspension should have been longer and he also feels there should have been a substantial fine as well.

"A lot of guys are finding different ways to cheat now in boxing. Im just glad that he got caught. It tarnishes his legacy. And ultimately, a lot of people in the boxing world feel the suspension is a pat on the back. I believe that a hefty fine should be set in place. Because how do you truly penalize a guy, who just takes a six month break and then fights in September," Jacobs told BoxingScene.com.

Jacobs lost a close points decision to Golovkin in March 2017 and wants to get his hands on GGG in a rematch.

jacobs speaking some sense about clenelo...by his peers he shall be judged

From what I read he was fully clean

Thats means hair follicle for clen is inaccurate or the boy had someone else hair
Need more information on the difference in hair testing vs urine testing method they used. Hair testing may be less sensitive than urine, hence the hair testing conning back negative

Shakur Stevenson fighting tomorrow, does anyone have any idea how I can see that live?

His opponent is 12-0-0 and 30 years old :lupe:

its on a top rank card so either espn will have the non televised undercard airing on their website or top rank will air it on the website

that's the right decision imo

team GGG can't say now that they get stripped unjustly
I think to grant it to him now because of the short notice but make him fight his mandatory next is fair and puts team GGG in a position where they have to make the inevitable decision of whether they want those Ms immediately in September or take risk but keep all the 3 belts they have now and maintain the hopes that they might get all the belts.

I think he fights him in July so he’ll be ready to fight September

I guess there's a possibility for that but I'd be surprised by it...

if they are so cautious that they risked being stripped just to wait out the Canelo rematch without risking any serious opponent it would be strange id they would take 3 fights in the span of 5 months with Derevyanchenko being risky and Canelo being a big fight which needs much hype and preparation.
