Mikey Garcia Explains Why He'd Want Spence Bout Over Crawford

IBF junior welterweight world champion Mikey Garcia (38-0, 30 KOs) is going big game hunting.

Earlier this month, Garcia became a four division world champion when he won a twelve round unanimous decision over Sergey Lipinets in San Antonio, Texas.

Garcia, who still holds the WBC lightweight title, is mulling his next career move - which includes which weight division he plans to call home.

Once Vasyl Lomachenko and Jorge Linares reached an agreement to fight each other on May 12 in New York, it left Garcia without a key opponent at lightweight.

There are several options at junior welterweight - but during some of his recent interviews Garcia has been mentioning the idea of moving up to 147-pounds to pursue a welterweight title.

Two of the opponents that Garcia has mentioned at 147 - are IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence (23-0, 20 KOs) and former two division champion Terence Crawford (32-0, 23 KOs), who beat Garcia in the amateurs.

While Spence is arguably viewed as the most dangerous fighter at the weight, Garcia feels his style is a much better fit than Crawford. He feels Crawford will not fight him straight-up, and instead use his legs to move around and box.

"I think against Spence it would be a very good fight, because he's strong, he's a stand-up fighter. He's not going to be running, he's going to make it a good fight. Crawford I think would be running more, using his height and his reach advantages... he wants to make it as easy as possible for him, and that's the way he has to fight - but that makes it a dull fight sometimes and the fans don't like that, and I don't want that," Garcia told Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports.

"[Crawford is] going to be running around the ring all night and I'm going to be chasing him. I'm going to be trying to cut the ring off of course. If I fight Terence one day, I'm going to be cutting off the ring and try to make it a physical fight, because that's the only chance that I have. He's going to be running around like he did in the amateurs when he fought me, using his height and reach advantages... it scores points, but its not really what you want.

"Now Spence fights and I like that. I know he's got the size advantage and the height advantage, but that doesn't intimidate me because I know he's going to be in there for a fight."

Spence is also more of a win-win to him cause he is a naturally big welter while Crawford just moved up. If he loses to Spence he can just said he lost to a naturally much bigger guy.

and :hhh: @ Mikey, a conservative, textbook boxer-puncher talking this stereotypical Mexican tough guy shyt about running. You are not Chavez breh, let's leave that talk.
Robert Garcia and Abel Sanchez are good coaches but their forced macho shyt is boring as hell, they make it out as everybody who takes a backward step in the ring would be Lara.
Crawford scored 6 stoppages from his last 7 fights but he is a point scorer and a runner now cause he is not a pressure fighter or a brawler.

They pretty much discredit boxing as if it would be some second rate shyt to brawling, subconsciously shytting on many of the greats with this, like Ali, Pep, Mayweather, Benitez, etc... who were all boxers first.

Shots fired, and an allusion to Craw having a weak chin.

Mikey crazy talkin about fighting Spence though. Look at the difference in their shoulder size pause.
