Aint Canelo vs GGG 2 a voluntary?
Charlo is already owed a shot.
*edit*
But there is the issue of Golovkin owing a mandatory defense to Jermall Charlo (26-0, 20 KOs), who wants to get his world title fight.
There has not been a mandatory defense of the WBC middleweight title in several years.
The World Boxing Council is planning to review the whole matter on Wednesday. What should be noted, is Canelo refused to fight for the WBC belt when he faced Golovkin. However, the champion was still defending the belt - which would have been vacant had Canelo won.
"We are going to wait for the mandatory session that is taking place on Wednesday, to see the positions of the involved parties and, as always in the open meeting, to make the corresponding decision. Golovkin is a boxer who went through a very long process to get to the point of what happened on September 16. Canelo is an elite boxer and they both gave each other one of the great fights of recent years," Sulaiman told ESPN Deportes.
"It is clear that a rematch is something that really interests the public and the boxers are also interested in giving the public the fights they want.
We will see Wednesday as they are going to present the positions of Charlo, GGG and we'll try to bring the best resolution. There has not been a request [to get an exception for the rematch], but surely [Golovkin's promoter Tom] Loeffler will bring his position on it."
