RIP MR. SMOKE
If anything I think dude is prolly this era's Ricardo mayorga. Limited boxing skill with a very ugly/awkward come forward style. You never expected him to beat the top guys but you knew he would make them uncomfortable and actually make them fight. It still baffles my mind that he beat Vernon twice though. Is Sean porter this eras josh clottey?
What I mean by that is that there is always the guy that can hold his own against anybody, but falls short against the top tier guys. They either fall short in close fights or just flat out don’t get the decision.
Prior to them it was Ike Quartey. He could hang with anybody but yet had losses on his record to Oscar, Vargas, etc.
But yea, the fact that porter can give these guys such close fights made me lose respect for this welterweight era. Porter wouldnt exist in the mosley-oscar-tito era. That's why I badly wanna see tcraw and spence vs porter. Imo, they'll dominate him like a truly great boxer should. But I have to give porter credit. Despite all his flaws, he's managed to make a name for himself and stay afloat. He was wise to move down to 147. He knew he woulda been exposed early at 154. Imagine porter trying to come in headfirst bullying a guy like charlo. Porter woulda hit a brick wall like "how come he ain't movin pops?".....by the time his dad answered porter would be sleeping in the upper deck somewhere.
Just watch that video of charlo tellin porter he could come to 154 and make that paper. Porter started laughing nervously and tried to change the subject quickly like when your bytch accuses you of cheating.
bytch: "Why you got tinder on your phone?"
Me: ..........ayo I heard it's gonna rain tomorrow. Better pack a jacket just in case"
