We've mentioned these thoughts frequently in the Mike Brown (R.I.P.) thread. There's a clear shift going on in black consciousness. In light of recent events, it seems like we're having conversations on taking care of ourselves and each other.

One thing that many of us are focusing on is supporting our own and creating a black infrastructure. We've all heard the statistics that we spend the most, making everyone else's community rich. In the internet/entrepreneur age, there is no reason why we can't take care of ourselves.

I want to build on this, so that we can begin to educate and take action. As far as myself, I'm creating a Facebook page to promote this idea and to get the word out about black businesses in my city (Los Angeles).

This is the key to taking care of ourselves, through:

- Black businesses that allow us to feed, clothe, entertain and provide for ourselves and each other, without having to give our money to those who don't have our interests in mind, or who are actively fukking us over

- Black educational institutions that teach our REAL history, including the Moors who ran Europe, the many kingdoms in Africa, the fact that we were in North America prior to slavery and a look into slavery and beyond that isn't white washed

- Black spiritual institutions that help the community, rather than just collect from it. And in terms of Christianity, a clear distinction that this is an ancient African religion and not just some white story to make us behave. Imagine if our Christian brothers and sisters had the fight and community focus of NOI, rather than just focusing on the "Let go and let God" aspect

- A celebration of our art and culture. Everyone else loves it, so we should too. Regardless of what they're showing on TV or telling you what is cool

- Think tanks of brothers and sisters NETWORKING, NETWORKING, NETWORKING ... combining resources.

- Activities and sports for the kids to empower them, so that they don't become black zombies

- Global financial awareness that allows us to connect with others in the Pan African experience, so that we have international consciousness

Basically, history has shown (Black Wall Street, etc) that when we link up, we're fukking special. In this day and age, there's no excuse why we can't do the same. It starts small, but taking one action might inspire five more people to act, who might inspire 50 more people.

Let's combine thoughts and strategies.

I been thinking about this ever since I started hearing more brothers mentioning it on here recently. I been wanting to start my own business for awhile now but I'm at the early stages of learning and still have a long way to go. What I learned so far is there are several issues that plague the black community and one is that we don't know how to manage our money. Another is that we believe that money is extremely limited and there's not much of it to go around. We also gotta stop blaming rich people or the economy for all our financial struggles and just realize some of us just don't know how to hustle/make bread.

The system most people are under where you must work a certain amount of hours just to receive a certain amount money at the end of the week is what make people think that way. While that system has worked well for many many years (going back to the industrial age), its old and there new ways for us to profit without having to lift a finger. To break that cycle, we must leave that system behind in the dust, change our beliefs about money and educate ourselves about spending/saving/etc. I'm trying to do that as I speak because i don't wanna end up like some of my family members who are broke and in debt...just food for thought.

Thats what I'm after and what motivated me was my last job where I was a line worker at a packing company working 10 -12 hour breaking my back for minimum pay. I was a slave working for old white cacs that were all rich, a$$holes and racists. All the nikkas/hispanics were the ones doing the hard work, busting their asses and it didn't sit right with me. After I was fired, my friend was on thin ice and he saved his job by begging them, kissing they ass which I found disgusting, but thats breh.

We have to own our own shyt....whether it be factories, schools, colleges, shops, stores, restaurants and hire our own. In my community, there aren't alot of businesses, but theres a few blacks that own a business that I do support and blacks work at them. We have to build collective wealth with one another and cut the jealously/bullshyt out. As for the business I wanna run? Im not sure, but I wanna create several income streams that I can eat from. I did have an idea to one day open a club that caters to black people where theres music, food, and art that showcase our deep roots of history and heritage......something like that lol

I know exactly what you mean. I left my job to go work for myself a couple of years ago and it was the best decision I made in my life. It was scary and empowering at the same time. Scary because I'm responsible for everything and if I don't work, I don't eat. Empowering because I'm my own boss and there's not cap on my income. I don't have to be at the company for three years to beg for a $1 an hour raise.

In this day and age, it's easier than ever to start your own situation. I'm trying to constantly increase my streams of income, especially passive income, because that's where it's at. But working for myself also allows me the freedom to do what I want without having to worry about representing the interests or image of the company, because I am the company.
